Summer transfer window 2023

People aren't silly mate, they know 75 mill walked through the door from Jan - June in Kean and Gordon.

We just watched the academy be pillaged for another 10 - 15 mill.

Now Gray and a few others are linked with moves away.

People know the wages that have been cleared.

Clock it all up with nothing incoming, beyond Young.

People are justified to ask WTF.

Do we blindly just write of say the Kean and Gordon money and say, Everton you badly run rascals.

We cant just nod along and accept it like good little "customers".

Its too serious, the club are peeing down our backs and telling us its raining.
We need to get the protests going again this time aimed at Moshiri other fanbases wouldn't put up with this year in and year out

I'll explain my rationale - I don't think we're going to see early movement/everything in place by the time Fulham come to Goodison for the opening day of the season outside of players like Che Adams, but I still think we need those additions to the squad

Other football clubs are aware of our dire financial situation, and know that (1) We need to improve the squad; (2) We are currently sell to buy/very low opening instalments like Onana. As a result, other clubs for the most part know they can wait for Everton to lower their prices as we get further into the window and need to start moving on players at lower cost (although Thelwell and co have actually done relatively well thus far with ISS and Simms sales).

Moreover, other transfers have a domino effect - see for example West Ham moving on Rice, possibly then going in for Onana (guess work but the big transfers have big knock on effects in the chain). Even loans typically happen towards the end of the window as it becomes clear that there isn't a space for a player on the periphery of the squad or they haven't impressed a new manager in preseason.

What this all means for Everton is that if we want to bolster the squad (which we especially need to do at the top end, given DCL won't be fit for the first few games judging from club media), we are limited to targeting players at clubs who have worse leverage than ourselves until we can make a big sale (Pickford, Onana, Branthwaite, Iwobi, Gray to Saudi?), and then you can invest in your quality young players with room to grow (Bilal Toure, Elanga, Boniface?).

Adams is the best of a bad bunch in that regard imo - players that the selling club will want to get rid of quickly, that fit the style of play (unlike say Maupay), that won't be wildly in demand from elsewhere, and have proven themselves to be at least lower end Premier League forwards.

I agree that we can't waste that early run of fixtures like we've done in the past; this requires getting a forward in early doors, and Adams ticks a lot of boxes in that respect. Should also be said I do actually think he's better than the goals to games actually suggests and would improve the squad long term, but that's not really the broader point I'm trying to make
He really isn't. He's badly awful and a huge waste of limited money. He'll just be another Maupay et al to stink the gaff out that we then can't shift.

You can try and do the mental gymnastics the club want us to, in order to make this seem like an acceptable signing, but it really isn't. There is a whole world of footballers out there from various leagues who could deliver results. Signing an absolute carthorse who has shown that he isn't good enough in the PL and, on top of not being good enough, has been relegated too, is shocking recruitment. Most clubs are trying to move away from this model now. Not little old Everton.

And if you are arguing that we should get him in now to be a squad player and sign better by the end of rhe window, we never do that; the 'squad player' always ends up the starter at Everton.

I think this is why the board has had it so easy at Everton, because low standards are endemic at the club and ingrained in the fanbase, to the extent that we always celebrate the acquisition of dross. Rinse and repeat. Not having a go at you specifically mate, I've done it too in the past but I'm beyond sick of it now.

Moshiri and Bill are putting money into the stadium, spending only enough (in their eyes) to ensure PL survival for another year, at which point they cash in and leave. I don’t believe for one minute cash will be invested to move us up the table.

We should know recruiting a player is not as easy as press a button.
I believe we must have something to spend but just too cautious.
Another point is we are in 16th last year and that is not easy to attract the player come.
Boring truth is negotiating just takes time unless you just pay the asking price, which is a mistake we’ve made in the past. And the negotiations can only go as quickly as the selling club allows.

We were in the exact same position last summer and all the noise from the usual suspects about financial limitations, instalment deals, market struggles was exactly the same as it is now. We still ended up getting 8 total in the door. Would be better to get them in quicker this year but that’s not entirely in our hands.

Last season we were reliably told by many that we would not sign anybody.
At the same times we were strongly link with dozens of players and I think that Tarkowski was one of the very few that happened... it did not take an itk that transfer was likely.

Eventually we brought in a total of eight, nine if Kudus had joined.

Apart from a couple of days before the transfers happened I don't remember any links to Vinagre, Onana, Garner,McNeill or Kudus.
I can't remember about Coady, McNeill or Maupay.

I certainly have no idea how much we have to spend or who our targets are, but for everybody who says we are chasing Gnonto and Toure there are others saying we are not involved at all... so goodness knows.

I would expect we will bring in players not mentioned at all yet and I think we will have to wait as we try to manufacture deals that we can afford and at the same time are acceptable to the clubs selling.

But, I do think players will arrive.

The problem isnt numbers mate, we need a squad of 25 max. It needed to be reduced.

The problem is the only players other clubs want are our best ones and a failure to replace them, leaves us with a low quality, but more importantly an unbalanced squad - we dont have an attacker but have sold or got rid of Tosun, Kean, Richarlison, Gordon and Rondon in the last calendar year - even more if you go back 24 months - with no or poorer qaulity make do replacements, or none at all.

We finished the season with Gray leading the line - now we are trying to sell him (after selling Simms)...................its madness unless we have something and more lined up.

I agree and disagree. We do need better quality in certain areas (LB,RW,CF) but we also need more numbers in certain areas (LB,RW,CF). And if we can only sell decent to buy decent potential, then we require bringing 2 in for every one out. Yes I know we have loads of dross… but you can’t rely on getting transfer money in for them to buy a player in the same position with high potential and of around the same current quality (at least) as the departure.

I think we’re pretty much saying the same thing. Just I discount the bad players we need to cull as ‘outs’ as we will get sweet fa money for them to buy players coming in, lol

Sorry I worded it badly...I meant BEFORE we bring in an actual striker. I'm sure somebody will be brought in....just very nervous about who it will be
No probs 👍

I know, to be where we are now is just utterly insane

We desperately need a striker and let's be honest, there's very little chance Dom will make it through most of the season. Won't be too long before gets injured again once he comes back.

That is a very hard figure to gauge.

The one thing that Moshiri needs above all is to avoid relegation or else he potentially loses hundreds of millions.

Spot on lad. When are we going to see some " Transfer expertise " ?

It's entirely plausible that Leeds will string us along for the entire window with Gnonto, giving indications they will let him go only to sack it off at the end of the window just because they want us to suffer for (allegedly) 'breaking ffp'. Bill is definitely gullible enough to fall for it and we'll have wasted yet another window pursuing one unobtainable target. Call me a conspiracy theorist but other clubs f*ING hate us.

(I also think the only reason spurs signed danjuma in summer was because Levy was pissed that Everton got Dele on a free, and played the system out of paying the £10m fee. Levy is known for being a shrewd transfer negotiator and that one was a low point for him. Explains why the Conte didn't want danjuma)
Like I said, Bobble has been fairly consistent that this won't happen.
Not saying he will come to us but is not over i would be shocked if he is still at leeds this season. Think if the deal hits 20/25 that hay is usually spot in with leeds news. Says that we are still in for him, i am starting to get worried what will happen this window again time is just going past us and no new players in feels like jan again
