Given that we are likely to bring 2-4 players into a squad of 24-25, there is not much these new arrivals will do to turn our club's fortunes around.
Looking at our starting XI last year how many of them would you say were capable of a top half finish?
Pickford - Y
Coleman/Patterson - N
Tarkowski - Y
Keane/Holgate - N
Mykolenko/Godfrey - N
Iwobi - N
Gana - N
Garner - Y
McNeil - Y
Doucoure - Y
DCL/Maupay - N

I didnt include players already gone.
Add any 2-4 players to this and do they keep away from the relegation zone?
Gana no, despite winning Titles for PSG
But Garner yes, despite, well, I dont even know what hes done to deserve such praise.

Out of all those names, Michael Keane has probably the most top half finishes.

'capable' of a top half finish was my criteria. I think Garner has that in him but I think Gana's days of that are behind him.

Give the guy a chance will you why you even mentioning replacing dyche? And I wouldn’t want potter either.

Because the best run ‘smaller’ clubs now are those that plan as a club rather than for each manager. I’d be delighted if Dyche does well but I also want to make sure the club is set up for the future if he doesn’t.

He was still top 3 of the statto charts for tackles and interceptions last season in the league though.

Think it's still the case of when we sold him...we can moan about him not being "good" but then miss him massively when he's not playing.

Although he does have brain farts and loves playing lazy hospital balls.

Garner
Onana
McNeil

Those 8 together + 3 new attacking players such as Iheanacho, Gnonto and Damjuma played every game at full fitness is a top half team.

The weakness would then be the bench.

We sold Simms for £8mill to the championship.

£15mill is a good price for him

Simms was sold for £3.5mil and potential £1.5mil in clauses + £3mil if they get promotion.

£15mil is insane.

Okay....He's played more games in the prem (55) than Garner for United (7) and we bought him for £15mill and he's a year younger.

United spent £80mill on Sancho and ended up scrapping with Elanga for a starting place in his first season.

He's 21. Could be a player in there. The same with Gnonto

This summer transfer window is critical in light of the pending FFP investigation. We should conduct business now to guard against some potential outcomes. A few considerations:

(1) Potential monetary penalties
- Spend what we can now on players; if we are assessed a monetary penalty for FFP violations, any player purchases would be that much more challenging financially in the next window.

(2) Potential transfer ban - This would be a tough one for us. We need to ensure we have enough players (including youth) under contract to field a competitive team while the ban is in place. For example, if we are unable to buy players in Jan. or next summer, we had better position ourselves now to withstand that. A number of players are out of contract for us next summer, we must ensure enough players are under contract in the event we are given a transfer ban. Any one year loans would expire, so if we are banned next summer for example, we need enough players under contract through the next season.

(3) Potential points deduction - Of course we try to win as many games as we can, but plan on at least 50 points (not the usual minimum of 40 to stave off relegation) in case we get some type of points deduction imposed on us (10 pts. maybe?). We need to get our business done before Fulham, every game/point is critical.

Good times!

Patterson - Yet to play consistently
Branthwaite - Unproven at the top level
Mykolenko - Crap
