My problem buying Championship players now is there's no real deal to be had, they've become insanely expensive. It's worse for forwards too because even in that video there he's up against some properly dreadful defending and goalkeeping that you simply don't get in the Premier League, aside from when Keane plays for us.

Only way to get a good deal on a Championship player is like what we did with Garner, buy them off the back of loans from big clubs who don't really want them, despite their quality.

….posters say similar about the Scottish league but a player can do no more than impress. The judgement is whether they can step up. I actually like looking at the profile and in this case it looks like he was at Leeds before dropping down a level.

Holgate and Keane Championship depth.

Yeah quite possibly. I just doubt we let Holgate, Keane and Godfrey go. We'd need to sign 2 new defenders then when realistically other areas are more important to sort out. If we could fix the depth in this area, i'd be all for it.

What would even be the point anymore if we sold our 2 best prospects in many years for peanuts...
Zat. We HAVE to increase our revenue. The only way we can do that is by the sale of playing assets at the moment.

So if we get Onana for £30m last summer and he plays well enough for someone to pay £40m for him this summer; that's £10m profit. Given the comparatively low matchday revenue, limited sponsorship opportunities due to our position and lack of any other viable income streams at the club currently - the club can't generate that £10m in any other way.

It's great saying sell Maupay, selll Keane, sell Holgate. But we won't turn profit on any of those, simply because the demand for them won't be present because they're awful. Therefore the model now and for the foreseeable has to be find a gem, give him a polish, let him shine, sell him on.

I wouldn't get attached to any player coming through the club in the next 4-5 years, if they're any good they'll go. Hopefully whilst they're with us, they can help get us to the position whereby they won't want to leave, or ideally that we don't need to sell them.

Bet we sign one max if we can’t sell Holgate, Keane and Godfrey.

They do indeed. It won't be with Everton unfortunately.

You have to accept that we have to profit on these signings and continue to find more of them. When we get to the stage that we're settled, winning and financially stable then we can hopefully keep whoever the future Onana, Garner, Branthwaites are
It's all about the balance of risk- Onana, Garner and Branthwaite all have potential to get to a high level but none are at the level where it feels like it's guaranteed, like you get with special young talents like Rooney or even Stones. So do you take the risk that they don't or take the money and let someone else take that risk? It obviously in our position comes down to the price but there will be a price where it's sensible to move them on, there are plenty of examples of young players we didn't want to move on but we were ultimately right to move on because they never kicked on.

So that's fine if it's like 90% DOF and 10% manager and really not fine if it is closer to 50/50

No manager in the PL is going to risk his career on players he’s had no say over. Even the new Liverpool DOF said it’s different in England, the manager is the decision maker in England. The DOF sets the financial limits and provides the scouting detail but it’s ultimately the manager making the final decisions. That’s why criticism of Brands was always a bit over the top when the profile of signings was so obviously linked to the preferences of each manager.

Well, I think our plan should probably be some sort of this:

Sign free agents:
Aaron Martin
Ryan Manning
Matt Doherty
Ellyes Skhiri
Adama Traore
Oliver McBurnie

Get rid/loan:
Virginia
Godfrey
Holgate
Mykolenko
Nkounkou
Gbamin
Gomes
Dele
Gray
Maupay
Simms

We also probably have to sell Onana to pick up some real money

Buy:
Tammy Abraham
Viktor Gyökeres
a winger like Jack Clarke
a centre half like Mo Salisu
a young DM like Emiliano Martinez

Squad:
Pickford/Begovic
Doherty/Patterson/Coleman - Tarkowski/Keane, Salisu/Branthwaite, Martin/Manning
Iwobi/Traore, Skhiri/Doucouré/Martínez, Gueye/Garner, McNeil/Clarke
Abraham/McBurnie, Gyökeres/DCL

Not happy about Nkonkou on two counts: 1.7 is not a great return (Unless there's a sell-on clause) but more importantly it's a position of need. He was very raw when he was here, and a good season at the 10th place side in Ligue 2 doesn't tell us much about his progress, he might not have made it in the PL, but I would have liked to see us give him a go in camp this summer. FFS we have no depth there.

Pure relegation all that.

And Abraham isn't coming to us and we don't have the money

He'll get sold to a Ligue 1 outfit for £20mill. Nailed
