It's a frustrating one because we're missing out on some cash if they sell him for profit, but in fairness when he flopped at Cardiff first half of the season he looked an absolute write off so at least it's some money coming in. I have a hard time believing a guy who wasn't good enough for the Championship 6 months ago has become a top player overnight, it probably says more about Ligue 2. I don't like putting options in loans because they only get triggered if you're giving away a bargain, but after Cardiff probably no one expected him to look like even a 2 million player.

It's just an prime example of how disorganised the youth development is at the club

Isaac Price off to Standard Liege after turning a contract down.

Simms has 12 months left on his contract and will no doubt have a host of clubs after him in the championship. His future is up in the air. Do we sell him? Offer him a new deal to maximise a fee? Make him a 1st team player?

Dobbin did okay at Derby as a first full season of competitive football. He's more than likely going back out on loan.

Then you've got Tom Canon.

Where's the direction?

If we get offered the price we want for Onana im selling all day long. Im sick of hearing how hes full of potential. Based on what? Because Martinez said hes one of the best young talents in Europe? He had a couple of decentish games early on and thats about it. If he was half as good on the pitch as in the papers and on forums hed be a worldbeater but i havent seen anything like that yet.
Brighton: scour the globe for diamonds they can pick up for a few quid for the sole purpose of developing-selling-reinvesting at multiple times what they paid, embracing it every step of the way.
Everton: newspapers invent rumours that we might possibly be able to double our money on a lad who has had an ok-ish season, half the fan base loses their minds.

Another development masterstroke.

Watch Simms go back out on loan next season and leave for free.
Highly doubt Simms will cut it at Prem level, but if Maupay is getting picked for a run out ahead of you, then what's the point of staying here? If I was 22 years old and had only made about a dozen appearances in the Prem and was clearly not in anyones plans, I'd be out of here too.

Sell Simms
Keep Cannon
Sell Dobbin

Right so to sum up:

You expressed a worry that Dyche has a say in transfers

I’ve said that it’s probably the case as the manager will work with DOF on targets

You’ve said that’s completely untrue

You’ve then said though that you’re worried though because Everton probably would do the exact scenario I laid out
Yeah I mean if you just ignore basically all the details to what was actually said you nailed it

The manager should always be allowed to give their opinion on recruitment

But the DOF model will never work, and serves no purpose, unless the DOF has final say on all recruitment decisions.

Looking at who's available on a free and assuming we'll be largely shopping in the bargain bin, I wouldn't mind a move for Reiss Nelson at Arsenal. Obviously not good enough for them but would improve us.

Nkounkou was a tricky one. In the limited opportunities he got here, it was obvious that he had a spark of something going forward. But his defending was absolutely dreadful. Woeful, even. And that wasn't even in the Premier League, for the most part.

Notice that all the plaudits he's garnering for his performance on loan this season are for his offensive contributions. That does nothing to disprove the notion that he would never have had a future at the Premier League level as a LB. As a winger, maybe?, but not a LB.

That said, if the buy clause we gave them is as low as rumored, that's just moronic. But not much of a surprise, unfortunately.

He just simply isn't a defender. If he makes it here or elsewhere it'll be at best as a wingback in a 3-4-3 type setup but more likely as a wide attacker.

Their academy is a major disappointment. It is fine to develop some guys you sell early because they are not good enough to play for you. But they are developing no one through the academy that impacts the team. Gordon brought in great money, but they got no on field performance from him.

I doubt we can spend much due to FFP, so bargain bin it is. We’ll have pretty much the same squad next season, I’ll look forward to 2 keepers on the bench again.

If we signed prime Messi our fan base would’ve said he’s too short and only got one foot.
