No manager in the PL is going to risk his career on players he’s had no say over. Even the new Liverpool DOF said it’s different in England, the manager is the decision maker in England. The DOF sets the financial limits and provides the scouting detail but it’s ultimately the manager making the final decisions. That’s why criticism of Brands was always a bit over the top when the profile of signings was so obviously linked to the preferences of each manager.
That's just all untrue unfortunately

Has any club actually shown an interest in paying over what we paid for Onana? If they have i havent seen it so why are loads of people assuming hes gonna go this summer for 40 plus million? I find it bizarre he done very little last season so who are these clubs desperate to give us fortunes?

Watching the Barnsley v Shef Wed playoff monday and was impressed by Mads Andersen, the Barnsley CB and captain. Only 25 so entering prime

Not happy about Nkonkou on two counts: 1.7 is not a great return (Unless there's a sell-on clause) but more importantly it's a position of need. He was very raw when he was here, and a good season at the 10th place side in Ligue 2 doesn't tell us much about his progress, he might not have made it in the PL, but I would have liked to see us give him a go in camp this summer. FFS we have no depth there.
It's a frustrating one because we're missing out on some cash if they sell him for profit, but in fairness when he flopped at Cardiff first half of the season he looked an absolute write off so at least it's some money coming in. I have a hard time believing a guy who wasn't good enough for the Championship 6 months ago has become a top player overnight, it probably says more about Ligue 2. I don't like putting options in loans because they only get triggered if you're giving away a bargain, but after Cardiff probably no one expected him to look like even a 2 million player.

Well, I think our plan should probably be some sort of this:

Sign free agents:
Aaron Martin
Ryan Manning
Matt Doherty
Ellyes Skhiri
Adama Traore
Oliver McBurnie

Get rid/loan:
Virginia
Godfrey
Holgate
Mykolenko
Nkounkou
Gbamin
Gomes
Dele
Gray
Maupay
Simms

We also probably have to sell Onana to pick up some real money

Buy:
Tammy Abraham
Viktor Gyökeres
a winger like Jack Clarke
a centre half like Mo Salisu
a young DM like Emiliano Martinez

Squad:
Pickford/Begovic
Doherty/Patterson/Coleman - Tarkowski/Keane, Salisu/Branthwaite, Martin/Manning
Iwobi/Traore, Skhiri/Doucouré/Martínez, Gueye/Garner, McNeil/Clarke
Abraham/McBurnie, Gyökeres/DCL
This level of bonkers wouldn't even happen on a computer game, let alone in real life. 🤦‍♂️

The good thing about Onana is if we don’t get the price we want we don’t have to sell. We have plenty of depth in his position. He has little leverage to force a move. As for Niels I’d be annoyed if we sold him that cheaply and didn’t include a sell on clause which is almost positively the case. We could have easily gotten more.

Nope, no actual bids, but somebody in the tabloid rags invented the clickbait rumour, so now we have pages of debate on whether selling him for 60 million [currently imaginary] pounds would be a good or bad thing. 👍

No because I get the feeling Everton think more like you than the people that know what they're doing and it's going to get us liquidated

Right so to sum up:

You expressed a worry that Dyche has a say in transfers

I’ve said that it’s probably the case as the manager will work with DOF on targets

You’ve said that’s completely untrue

You’ve then said though that you’re worried though because Everton probably would do the exact scenario I laid out

If we get offered the price we want for Onana im selling all day long. Im sick of hearing how hes full of potential. Based on what? Because Martinez said hes one of the best young talents in Europe? He had a couple of decentish games early on and thats about it. If he was half as good on the pitch as in the papers and on forums hed be a worldbeater but i havent seen anything like that yet.

….presume this is Thelwell’s work.
