Summer transfer window 2023

We sold him for what we could at the time.

He then went on and had a decent season in Lique 2.

I get that people like to abuse the club for things, but we took the best offer on the table at the time for a lad who hadnt really done much in his time at the club.
We just sold him at the beginning of this window. Was it a loan with an obligation? If so fair enough. Just doesn't look great that they pay us 2.5 mil and turn around a 2months later and sell him for 8.5 mil.

I never get this mentality to be honest. If I was a footballer I wouldn't be remotely arsed about playing 5 games in a competition I can't win every year. If people were so pressed to play CL football then they'd all go to Celtic and Rangers, get hammered every year and finish bottom of the group stage.

Barkley went from arguably being a consistent England international and the "face" of Everton at the time to a lad that was barely making the squad at Chelsea or England and was bombed out on the first oppurtunity, he won the Europa League with them, fair enough but it's not like he played a crucial part or anything like that. Gordon (in his own head) was Everton's star player and will most likely be sent out on loan next year after being found out at that level, never really having an impact with them and most likely never getting any real England career.

Fair enough if the money is much better and all that but I don't see what's so great about either of these moves from a player's point of view. Obviously I'm an Everton fan and if I were a footballer I'd want to have my full career at Everton but aside from that I'd genuinely prefer to have a career like Conor Coady who Wolves loved even though at times he was probably above the level or even Harry Kane who could go to any club in the world but isn't too fussed about leaving Spurs because he loves it and they love him.

I just don't see the appeal of basically becoming a mercenary to a club that'll forget you once the next shiny transfer comes in and takes your place.
Didn't he pick up quite a bad hamstring injury not long before he left us? I'd wager that has had quite a big effect on his career

I get what you mean but I don't think any of these lads, especially now, have ever really had money problems where they think "I have to make as much as possible". If you're a 16 year old on £2k a week or whatever then really you'll never know proper desperation. I think money talks a lot for loads of them, Gordon for sure, even looking at our squad now I think Iwobi is the easiest example of someone who clearly "needs" to be wealthy and wants to be viewed like that.

I would think though if I were a top footballer at Everton, earning let's say £100k a week, I'd have no desire to leave as a fan, even if the money was much higher because what I'd earn already is life changing money and more than enough. I'd be rich one way or the other, I'd rather being rich and adored by Everton than slightly more rich and treated as just another body by Newcastle for example. Again I think us fans would have a different view though since these players are so far from normal people and the money is never enough because like Gordon and Iwobi who I mentioned, their life needs to be "flash" and they must present themselves as superstars.
Some players are just like normal lads not all of them maybe but a lot are. The difference for them is that it is a job and sometimes you want to change jobs we just look at them on a weekend and think that 90 minutes is all its about but for them theyre living it and if they don't like their boss or they're bored of training they want a change just like we do in our jobs they just get paid better!

We have literally just sold him this summer so if we didn’t have the stupid buy clause in his contract then yes we could’ve sold him for £8m.

They took up the option.

I didnt see anybody complain last year when we did the deal.

But anyway, we have no Strikers, I cant say I care too much about some crapper moving from another crap club to another 1.

So by all means, get angry about the wrong things.

This is just silly. We have a good loan offer on the table, he hasn’t featured in pre season and is realistically 4th choice to go up front. Stop messing people about and let him go play football before the offer comes off the table.

No I think this is the right thing to do no doubt at all. I hope we sign other strikers so we don't need him but until we're sure thats happening its better safe than sorry and its not like the loan offers won't be there in a few weeks for him.

Yes they did, like we could’ve done with Coady for £4m and then sold him straight on to Leicester and made £3m on him. It appears the people who run Ligue 2 Saint Etienne are more clued up on how to run a football club than our own brain’s trust.

No incoming is done at Everton until it is 100% signed and sealed

So I think they are right to wait. I wouldn't back us to get the incomings we need so unfortunately he has to stay until signings are made.

This makes no sense, he isn’t getting near our team regardless of whether we bring anyone in or not. He will just rot on the bench next to Billy Crellin and Andy Lonergan and stagnate.

30% sell-on clause previously reported by The Athletic and The Echo so if that is correct we get another €2.5m of the fee Frankfurt are paying making €4.5m in total so we and St. Etienne effectively split the money, with their share earned by actually playing and developing him so he had some value.
