Can't recall the source but I saw a figure recently that it was £235m net spend.

It's really wages and the lack of sell-on value for those players, combined with lack of commercial revenue, that has done for us.

From being once, known as the "Bank of England" club, we have been paupers for almost the entirety of the PL era.....thanks Bill.

We did have a splurge but it wasn't spectacular, far from it.
The quantity of £20m+ signings who either have or will leave us on a free is obscene… and that’s mostly down to the insane wages we’ve given them meaning either no one wants them or they players aren’t willing to take a pay cut to leave.

The new strategy (or what seems to be the new strategy) of spending money on young players on manageable wages is just so much better. Even if you spend a decent wedge on a transfer fee, you’re vastly less likely to take an absolute bath if the signing doesn’t work out.

Look at Moise Kean - bit of a disaster of a signing in a football sense, yet we still either broke even or made a small profit.

Lukaku 80m
Stones 50m
Barkley 20m
Richarlison 50m
Gordon 40m
Kean 30m
Deulofeu 12m
Klassen 12m
Gueye 30m
Vlasic 12m
Lookman 20m
Onyekuru 12m
Digne 25m

That half a billion spent has brought back in over 300m. Which means we have spent around the same amount inn 4/5 seasons as what these clubs have spent this summer alone.
Mad figures yet still whallopped by ffp

I can't see where the negativity is coming from. SD only took over halfway through the season and changed form dramatically even without DCL for the most part. I don't see us struggling with relegation this season despite some newspaper columnists tipping us to go down.

It's my last radiotherapy session today so I'm very upbeat, but that has nothing to do with my positivity regarding the upcoming season.
Great stuff and good luck to you, some things far more important than football transfers!

While I'm far from an expert in the matter, as far as I can tell the issue we have is that the % of our turnover spent on wages is too high, which has crippled us.

We've spent money and recouped, but the days of buying low and selling high have been replaced with spending high and selling low (or releasing) with big wages.

I think Moshiri and co. banked on the money from European football coming in and lowering the difference in the wage vs. income element, plus sponsorship.

The perfect storm of having a rubbish squad on high wages, which we can't move on, and Uncle Us's money drying up has put us in this mess.

And what Moshiri has bought he has recouped a great deal of it back, when the media talk about how much Everton splurged in those first 4 years of Moshiri they never include that. I would love to know what our nett spend is for the 7 years Moshiri has been here, I think a lot on here would be surprised how low it is.

Problem has always been the wage bill.

Paying champions league wages and took a gamble of being in Europe. That gamble failed.

Fair point, but another fair point is the majority of those high earners have left. Putting the likes of Holgate on a supposed 70'000 a week is unforgivable, who deals with the wages side, Kenwright ?

Maybe, probably need to factor in how much it’s cost us taking on and binning off managers too (that won’t be good reading)
