All fair points mate, but he played alone at Brighton mostly - or have i imagined that, i think his best returns were part of a two and that was in the Championship.

One thing about us that i notice, is how isolated we leave we our forward players, be it Dom or Maupay - on a hiding to nothing, particularly in build-up. It was really evident with Danjuma last week, a couple of times he beat his man, broke the line and looked up and was just alone and he was like WTF.
Aye. It's been that way for years maybe bar the Carlo second season, our forward is totally isolated. You may be right about Maupay but he's used to a more passing build up so he could probably drop deep in the build up for Brighton and get in the box. Lampard bought him because he believed he could progress the team it was naive. We are very direct and as you say the pressure is all on the forward to just make something happen, with the second striker/number ten, Doucoure in our case running on to the bits, It's very much a 451 /4411, Dyche likes direct football we need a target man, I would wager Maupay would be better off a target man.

Yes, the strange thing is he will be dropped whenever a better option for CF is available rather than play him alongside, say, DCL in his preferred role. If he's staying then we need to rethink how we use him

I had a look at his PL no's this morning mate, he posted 10 and 8 for Brighton while there - not saying he's the magic wand to goal scoring, but its a big cliff to have fallen from to 1 in 30 odd for us and whats that about.... Our issue is the other offensive players as well in my opinion - creativity and threat. Even Dom hasn't scored much when he's been fit.

I know we need a centre forward, but i dont think one deal just changes it all.
Creativity is massive and seems to almost be forgotten about. We haven’t replaced Gylfi let alone James. Danjuma and Harrison will be a big improvement out wide but you can’t have Doucoure as your first choice attacking midfielder when he’s so technically poor.

We have lots to do but other than a striker and some sort of competent CB my priority would be a proper creative 10 type. Failing that get another winger and give McNeil a go centrally- he’s the only guy who really seems to have the technique, ball striking and work rate to link the midfield to the attack and generate a goal threat. Not an ideal solution but it’s not an ideal world.

Great post mate! ;)

Afternoon all and welcome to the 25th of August Everton transfer round up

Everton have opened discussions with Udinese over a move for Portuguese striker Beto, 25, but the Serie A club will not sell him unless his £30m release clause is met. (Liverpool Echo)

Everton have made an initial €25/26 million (£21.5/£22.3m) bid for Beto. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Toffees’ approach is likely to be unsuccessful as it remains some distance away from Udinese’s valuation. It was reported earlier this week that the Toffees had opened talks with Udinese and it now looks like they have made a concrete approach for his signature.

However, the Italian outfit are only open to parting ways with Beto if they receive a bid matching his release clause of €35m (£30m).

Burnley have had a €20 million (£17m) offer turned down for Johan Bakayoko. That’s according to Fabrizio Romano, who has reported that PSV Eindhoven will demand more for the winger following rumours of Everton’s interest. The Toffees are said to be one of a number of clubs interested in signing Bakayoko, though Burnley are the first to make a concrete approach.

According to Inter Live, Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Japhet Tanganga is no longer on Inter Milan's radar as the Serie A side close on a deal for Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard. The report claims that while newly-promoted Premier League outfit Luton Town are in pole position, Everton are also poised to make their move at the business end of the summer market.

Southampton beat Leeds to Mason Holgate deal after £72,000-a-week Everton reveal. Southampton have agreed a deal to sign Everton defender Mason Holgate on loan, sources have told Football Insider. It is believed to be a season-long loan with the option to make it permanent.

Everton defender Mason Holgate is on the verge of joining Southampton on loan, according to David Ornstein. The Athletic journalist tweeted on 25 August that the 26-year-old is due to travel down to the south coast on Friday (25 August) to undergo a medical ahead of the switch.

Willy Gnonto’s move to Everton collapsed because Leeds United wouldn’t agree to the payment plan being offered by the Merseyside club, according to The Times. The Times claims that “Everton’s cash-flow problems have led to them seeking loan signings and creative repayment structures to fund transfers” and it seems they tried to use the latter to secure £40million-rated Gnonto, 19, from Leeds.

I agree with this. Shouldn't we also accept that you can bring in a 15m CF as a project in an ideal world? But in our world we cannot afford such luxuries. We have bought a striker. Why not see if he's any good now?
