I want there to be absolutely zero fanfare about the Beto signing by the club. Just a short article on the site of a paragraph to announce good signing, obviously linked to from social media, then maybe a first to interview with him released during the international break. I want the club to get their heads down and at least try to blag to the fans that the whole focus is on getting results.

Agree, think part of it could be sorted by moving garner into the middle. But we do need a creative midfielder.

The problem with your thesis, is that yes whilst we will hit a comparatively run of good form, we will also revisit our baseline of poor form….you really don’t want to be playing catch up, as there is less margin for error. We have just lost the opening three games, two of which are at home to teams many would consider to be beatable. It is only right that people have concerned as this is not a flash in the pan, we have been like this for two years. This is far worse than the 90s struggles we experienced.

I think you need to adjust to the fact that you can no longer throw money around like confetti. Clubs that can’t do that - and we’re most definitely one - tend to leave business late as there’s a strong chance you’ll end up paying a fair bit less than if you did the deal mid-summer when the player and selling club still have time and options. What you might save doing it this way can be the difference between getting a second player in or not.

We’ve operated like this for years - we’ve had an attack including Schlupp and Ayew for the first 3 games which is just as bad, if not worse than yours. That’s just the reality of where you’re at now, in fact I’m amazed you’ve even got £25m for Beto, we’ll be lucky to get a £12m striker.

I agree if the buying club is not desperate, but I fear our levels of desperation as a buyer, are greater than the selling club’s desperation. Take this transfer window, we are heading into the last week of the window, rock bottom, no goals scored, no points. If we were to go to another PL or even Championship club who are not desperate to sell, they hike their prices up….if we meet their valuation or not, no skin off their nose. We are not in a position to do this.
