Summer transfer window 2023

I regard that as an opportunity rather than something to be concerned about.
With that number of poor / non contributing players out the door we could then bring in a progressive coach and players that fit his style of play.
I agree with you but I have a horrible feeling we will only appoint an exciting progressive young coach when we are in the Championship

Of course no, I could have kept us up, can't believe you people are still claiming it was a miracle.

First time in our entire history we have lost our first 3 games without scoring, all hail the Messiah.

"You people" :o

It is actually terrifying how many players we're losing at the end of the year. As it stands, without making loans permanent or offering any one year deals to older players, we're due to lose Iwobi, Dele, Doucoure, Gana, Young, Coleman, Danjuma, Harrison, Gray (on the off chance he doesn't go now), Gomes, Gbamin, and Lonergan.

Now the good news is, we'll be saving about £300k p/w on Dele, Gomes and Gbamin who will likely never feature for us again. It'll help bring our wage bill down massively which is long overdue.

The bad news is, the rest of them bar Lonergan are first teamers and largely going to be in the first XI. Whilst a few of them are of questionable quality, it will ultimately require money we don't have to replace them. If we do survive this season, which let's be honest is a real concern, it'll be yet another year of patching things up to survive another season.

Tbh the number of players leaving is more terrifying than the names of the players. I see it a bit more positively as almost the final purge of our most excessive earners. There’s probably about 35-40 million a year between those in salary.

Based on age and ability only 4 of those (Doucoure, Iwobi, Harrison, Danjuma) should realistically be anywhere near our squad next season anyway. And those we could still plausibly extend or make permanent, with an option on Harrison.

We’ll have loads to do next summer but then we always do. For me the massive purge of the wage bill is more of a positive than the loss of most of those players is a negative.

I regard that as an opportunity rather than something to be concerned about.

Including the loan players i dont think id keep any of them. In the "contract" thread i posted a couple of weeks back i used the words positive and opportunity.

However, we would need a left back, right back, 2× centre mid, 2×RW + 2×ACM

Thats 8 new players so i hope we can land a couple this season to be ready for next season.

I watched the Blackburn game and specifically Wharton yesterday.
He is no where near ready at this level.
His brother, the centre half plays like a Phil Jones clone

Thats ok if hes not ready at the moment. At a lowish fee if he can be around the squad this season as say 4th choice CM then he could be 3rd choice CM next summer.

Same goes for ACM and RW positions imo.

The big hope WM is that by then 2 things will have happened;

1. We have been taken over
2. Our accounts have been rehabilitated from a FFP / P&S standpoint.

However , equally ;
1. Moshiri and Kenwright still here
2. We get a transfer ban for 2 windows.

Take your pick
I would imagine once the hearing takes place in October, if we do get a transfer ban, there will be a number of contract extensions (but the players could have us over a barrel)

"You people"

Was never going to happen this window just dont have the money to fix all the problems we have. Can see maybe two more coming in cb prob another winger.

There's got to be a right mid/wing brought in as a priority.
It's a crime playing Garner there.
Totally agree on the RW but MF also needs looking at.

I know we lack creativity in midfield, but my biggest concern is the DM, or 6 role. The only midfielder we have capable of playing there is Garner and he doesn't get played there. Onana isn't a DM and Gana has always been a presser which means he vacates the space. Our midfield is essentially a hole for the opposition to walk through.

Needs looking at desperately. To be comfortable, we need a CB, RW and a DM. And that is ignoring the fact that our FB positions look atrocious.

I suspect we'll only get 2 of the above though.

Id have signed 3 players only this summer on permanents. Any of CF, RW, ACM and CM. Then used loans.

But as weve filled CF (with both Chermiti and Beto) and used loans on the others were going to have to hope a CM, ACM or RW comes in to ease the burden for next summer.

A decent CB in and despite the terrible start there is enough to stay up in that squad

If Onana is out for any time were done for with no other midfielder worthy of the name aside from Garner.

The same goes for any RW or ACM.

Onana has been a DM (anchor) all his career for his teams and for all the national youth and full team.

Garner has played there for Forest but mostly at CM. Get them playing together and we'll see them help each other and develop faster i reckon.

Otherwise a DM/CM to come in as 4th choice to develop ready for next season would be good.

An ACM (Gnonto) or RW (Bakayoko) would be perfect.

Thats true but that's only one side of the coin being solved. Windows roll over and I am very concerned by the lack acknowledgment of looming expirings being reflected in our business over multiple windows. My thought dating to the beginning of the summer (and before that) was to diversify the investment in the low teens with mostly under 23 darts over a myriad of squad positions. They may not all hit but the fact is we needed bodies and limited resources would warrant more evenly dispersed resources that potentially could generate future funds. Instead we have garnered frees and then seismic outlays as demonstrated by Beto. Loans for Danjuma and Harrison have credence in short sightedness staving off the drop with supposed immediate impact. But elsewhere? I don't see the names likely sellable for funds, or the recruitment recognizing the pool of expirings.

This dates to beginning of Thelwell. He has been stark in frees and then considerable transfer fee acquisitions to I think in total questionable results. With the above 20 million investments the majority arent projecting considerable profit if any if they were to be moved. I just don't understand why we haven't taken notes from the majority of clubs in our predicament with simply a lower bar market value in our targets.
