That’s utter rubbish. You can pick out a safe and I can pick a soft one he let in. Or like at Bournemouth the one he threw into his own net.

He’s a good keeper end of. Doucoure’s goals, McNeil’s goals. Gana winning tackles, Tarkowski’s blocks and headers and Mina’s performances over the last 4 games all factors why we stayed up
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

He’s not Southall mate. He cost us goals every season. Good keeper not world class the great man says that himself

He very demonstrably doesn't

He was, in fact, individually responsible for us conceding 3 goals fewer than we *should* have conceded over the course of the season if you use the PSxG measurement

There's a big common denominator deal with the defending last season though. I mean I get all you're saying it's just one guy was there while we defended essentially the same way the whole time.

I get the point you are making - teams getting shots away - as a defender in addition to what i describe above, sometimes you stand a player up and say if you score from there you deserve it - especially when you have to play a low block, thats % defending.

To be honest my take is i think there have been faults in all our lines and overall cohesion - by that i mean forwards, midfielders or defenders arent that connected, it improved somewhat under Dyche, but at times and particularly under Lampard our lines just seemed unconnected and incohesive, really bad team work and were often isolated. Thats what i think the problem is at time's - an example is when do the midfield stop picking up and when is the defence activated - that transition for me wasnt always clear in the players minds - especially under Lampard. Equally i felt our midfield in particular, often left our forward unit isolated and didn't manage transitions well.

FFS mate my head hurts just reading all that. Do ever just watch a game and enjoy it?

Look I agree with all of this but a very important part of it is that one of our defenders always wants to retreat deeper and deeper. It has to be acknowledged especially when it happened under Dyche as he's a real manager.

We wont agree mate - agree to differ! ;)

We're going mad of topic.

Welcome Wout.

I think an enormous part of this is that we are a team who have played with 3 in midfield for this whole period (more or less) and we completely lack actual sitting midfielder, one who is positionally aware and can sit in front of the defence. For everyone who clamoured last summer to suggest that Gana would be this player for us, he isn't and he never has been. He's an aggressive ball winner and he's great at it, but he doesn't screen a defence like a true number 6 (take Joao Paulinha at Fulham as an example). In the system we play, the way the midfield has been constructed is an issue to me and, despite Dyche's best efforts (where it has improved tbf), the gaps between midfield and defence are still an ongoing problem and when that happens and it's exploited, the issue you're both highlighting is suddenly brought to the fore, you're left with a defence who have to react. I still see it as fundamentally our biggest defensive issue.

I think what he is actually doing is probably more attributable to him than team performance is given he personally is controlling himself while there are 10+ other players who have an impact on the team. To me it's fine calling one significantly less valuable as far as evaluation goes.

I mean Tarkowski is absolute crap so there you go tbh. Let's stop bringing those guys in and calling it great.
You always seem quizzical when you attract vitriol on here from other posters this is good example why. You can just say I don't rate Tarkowski but when you say it in a hyperbolic and dismissive fashion it's inevitable you're going to rankle someone.
