Possibly...depends doesnt it on whether teams think were just poorly run. £35mil would still need a top up if were looking at really going for that player to push us up the table.

The reason clubs offer high amounts of money for players is because they believe they will be successful/meet targets which infers that those investments would be seen as "lower risk"...

...than punting all over the shop in a scattergun manner.

Theres many reasons people pay more for quality. Several of them ive listed in this thread.

Youre just talking gibberish at this point and not using any context.

Good point, id forgotten about Gray

@MikeH72 add another £7.5mil to the list to take the incomings to north of £60mil.

What planet do you inhabit Zat?

for every Iwobi there is a Peinaar

For every Jags there is a Keane.

I don’t think you can discount any players based on the stature of their club vis a vis Everton
I think this is where Everton fall down - they don’t do enough on the psychology of the players they’re signing.
For players at 72 clubs in England, Everton is always going to be a step up and for 10 clubs a step-down.
If that means we have to accept being a feeder club for a couple of years and deal with players just passing through, I’m fine with this as long as there is a plan that this is just transitional period in the club’s history. It seems to work for Dortmund

It's not me that's missing the context here. My only point was that spending more on a player is not lower risk. That was what you said and that is what I replied to. You're now introducing all sorts of bizarre points that are irrelevant to the point being made. Obviously on a very very basic level it's true - signing Haaland for £150m would be less of a risk than signing Gyokeres for £20m - but in the context of the market we'd actually be shopping in the difference is going to be much, much smaller. Signing Onana for £40m for example, was not inherently less risky than signing Garner for £15m.

Also it should really go without saying that the club (especially this club) thinking something is lower risk and it actually being lower risk are two different things entirely.

I don’t think they will be the only ones either, I could see him going to Man Utd as well, even Chelsea might be interested.

United I could possibly see too. Not many keepers really out there at the minute, we're in a good position. I just personally think Spurs will go all out for him with Lloris leaving.

At the same time, we're not in the market to say no to £40m for our goalkeeper should a bid arrive.

If we stay up and Forest go down - spend all we have on Morgan Gibbs-White and a decent striker.

Ideally we can bring in a few more but if not, that gives is adequate creativity and firepower to tilt the odds in our favour.

Do that, and retain what we have and we'll survive next season. Then build again.

Theres interest in Maupay...£9mil is the breakeven on the transfer fee for FFP.

Keane id be surprised if we couldnt find a buyer for £10mil.

yer ideally we would like to breakeven, but another team won't be arsed what we want.

he was linked with crap italian team wasnt he, they wont be paying anything close to 9m

who's paying 10m for keane? i can't see anyone even paying anything for him, he's useless and on massive wages.

Can you name me another player in Evertons recent past who took a step down from a bigger club and was a success? Lukaku wanted out the door as soon as he walked though it, he always saw us as a stepping stone and said as much. And just talking about Stones, John Stones is another player who was ready to make a step up.

Coleman, Baines, Lescott etc etc the list goes on
It's just a simplistic way of looking at it I think. Baines and Jagielka weren't successes because of where we signed them from, they were successes because they were good. Neville, Howard, and Saha were successes for sure, Lukaku who you've already mentioned, Digne, Mina and Deulofeu to an extent. The list goes on.

We could sign Haaland for £150M and probably break him.
Other than Lukaku, we haven’t really developed or enhanced a striker since Rooney.
