It's a difficult one really. Being pragmatic, Dyche (and most managers) will throw sound bites out there to appease fans or to blur the reality of the situation. My concerns are based on Dyche's statement on pace and power,so few of the players currently under contract fit that profile and doubt there will be enough money available to address it with any hope of success. We don't know if Mina would have ever stayed whatever he was offered but Dyche stated he identified some of the main reasons why the injuries were happening and Mina did stay fit for the important run in games. Beginning to look as if Dyche is just saying what we want to hear without any hope of implementation. Hope I'm wrong.
I personally think that Dyche is probably saying what he wants - err, hopes - will be the profile of player that the club go for, now and in the long term.
That's what we will be aiming for. Yet, we need to be mindful that the limitations of the squad and our current financial predicament may mean...
...this isn't completely fulfilled. I think the club wanted Mina to say, however the reality is he may want to look elsewhere for a multitude of reasons.
If we really wanted him to stay, it would have cost us, and the club probably believe they can get a replacement in (perhaps not as good) for lower wages.
He's not a spring chicken either, so as I said it's balancing plates and the books. That's why this is a difficult situation. Dyche will want pace and power.
Dyche will want to bring in players that will help ensure we're not in the same mess as the past two seasons, but whether it's the outcome is the question.
My biggest worry is that we have so many parts of the squad that we need developing, but there simply isn't the money and whatnot to fix them all.
We need to focus on a striker and more attacking options, but we can't be complacent as defensively and in goal we're worse off already.
