It was the day we ceased to be a really massive power in the game. Up until Bally, top players only left Everton when the club decided that they were past their best. Bally, the finest player I have ever seen in a royal blue jersey, was still very much a top player when we sold him. There were rumours about gambling and his personal relationship with the Catt, but, we sold Bally because the club decided it was good business, we doubled our money on him after having 5 great years from him.
Up until that moment, Everton were all about success on the field, no matter what, after we that, despite our successes in the 80's, we never really had that same 'win at all costs' attitude in our boardroom.
