We stayed up in spite of poor recruitment, and the failure to sign goalscorers.
Correct if we had kept Lampard we would have been rock bottom. Dyche got the system working just enough to dig out just enough points, but even then it was very close and we stayed up by the skin of our teeth in spite of having no goalscorer /number nine available most of the time, even the last game we played with no full backs! I can't get behind any complacency given our decline over the last two seasons, the squad is badly imbalanced and lacking in goals, we need massive improvements to avoid going down.

Yes I think we could get a decent keeper for free.

Just those moments where you need the Star to save you. We'd have gone down without Pickford, either in 22 or 23. That's a fact.
It’s absolutely true that in 22 or 23 we’d have gone down with an inferior gk to Pickford. But that shouldn’t be the case and the question is how do we avoid that being the case in 24?

Sacrificing JP would be a risk but the only way to avoid being in the relegation fight next season is to add goals at the other end. If we can add 10-15 goals for that more than compensates for a few more goals against. Getting bailed out by a top class keeper isn’t a sustainable situation.

That makes sense and that will be the equation facing us without Pickford. We will still need to strengthen the defence in front of an inferior goalkeeper. And the key question remains: Have you seen any strikers mentioned who you think will score 10 goals a year for us? I couldn't say yes with any confidence

Say we buy a player from another prem club, what wages would you expect us to give them. Mid 20’s With 4/5 prem years experience.
Only Prem clubs buying Holgate or Keane would probably a promoted one and Luton or Sheffield Utd not paying 70 grand a week, they would be lucky to get 30 grand in Championship . Everton just pay out silly money to anyone

Any potential Pickford deal shouldn’t involve Henderson. I don’t rate him that highly and we’ll end up over valuing him in the deal. If we have to sell Pickford rinse them for cash and buy a different keeper.

Remember United are the club that screwed us under Silva when we were ready to pay a lot of money for a CB either Smalling or Rojo and they left us in the lurch on the last day and then let both leave for absolute pittance rather than strengthen us even though we’d always dealt with them fairly for Rooney and Lukaku.

We shouldn’t deal with United Spurs or Chelsea unless we absolutely have to.
One of the worst things about the club over recent years has been the utter lack of self respect we have when dealing with these clubs.

United have always been a club we have allowed to mess us around.

How we still deal with spurs after Sissoko/Danjuma is beyond me.

Saudi league is going to off-balance everyones spending power.

Wolves £47m for Ruben Neves from Al Hilal.

We have no assets we could cash in on from them!

I am not sure on the answer but you are certainly correct that they need goals badly. Leicester let their goalie go and arguably the difference cost them a spot in the Premier League. I wish I had more confidence in the people spending the money.

47M for a guy with 12 months left on his deal is ludicrous but if they are after slow silky Portuguese midfielders over there then come on down Andre Gomes.

I mean he is quality, but yeah. Mental.

Who realistically could we flog to Saudi? Gomes, Dele?
Gbamin?

Everyone going over is going for inflated fees, binning those three off to Saudi for a decent wedge could really, really help us.
