I mean he is quality, but yeah. Mental.

Who realistically could we flog to Saudi? Gomes, Dele?
Gbamin?

Everyone going over is going for inflated fees, binning those three off to Saudi for a decent wedge could really, really help us.
I don't think that Holgate or Keane will be on their radar but Gray perhaps and Maupay please god.

It depends on what else came in. People said we'd go down without Richarlison and yet the combination of things we brought in was enough even though McNeil who was his direct replacement contributed fewer goals.
Agree to an extent but we barely escaped. If we then add Pickford to the general exodus following Richarlison we definitely go down….the key is how effectively they are replaced. Every time we seem to have a ‘star player’ I would say we struggle to replace effectively 100% of the time. Lukaku leaves - replaced with a host of no 10s. Idrissa leaves, we replaces him with Gbamin and Richarlison leaves…..Maupay. Yes if we do the deal right then selling JP could work, confidence levels in that though are shot for two reasons…1) clubs know we are in the sh1t and will try and steal him and 2) the replacement would likely be crap based on historic performance

Saudi league is going to off-balance everyones spending power.

Wolves £47m for Ruben Neves from Al Hilal.

We have no assets we could cash in on from them!
Probably the first young PL player I think has embarrassed himself professionally there. I’m sure there are others but I think he’s very good and going over there is just a shame. Clearly £500k per week set his family up for generations so can’t blame him, but he was going to Barcelona last week. Seems fair enough if you are early 30s.

Need to let them in the CL then Iwobi can go there for £650million.

We stayed up in spite of poor recruitment, and the failure to sign goalscorers.

Recruitment was excellent apart from the critical attacking positions...

It’s absolutely true that in 22 or 23 we’d have gone down with an inferior gk to Pickford. But that shouldn’t be the case and the question is how do we avoid that being the case in 24?

Sacrificing JP would be a risk but the only way to avoid being in the relegation fight next season is to add goals at the other end. If we can add 10-15 goals for that more than compensates for a few more goals against. Getting bailed out by a top class keeper isn’t a sustainable situation.

Exactly, what if he got injured or had a dramatic loss of form?

That makes sense and that will be the equation facing us without Pickford. We will still need to strengthen the defence in front of an inferior goalkeeper. And the key question remains: Have you seen any strikers mentioned who you think will score 10 goals a year for us? I couldn't say yes with any confidence

Boulaye Dia who has been linked since January would be a masterstroke imo.

They wantes Keane and Maupay in Jan so a deal may be there to be done despite fierce competition:

Only Prem clubs buying Holgate or Keane would probably a promoted one and Luton or Sheffield Utd not paying 70 grand a week, they would be lucky to get 30 grand in Championship . Everton just pay out silly money to anyone
Yes but if prem teams want them, they will have to pay more than 30k a week

Would love for all three to go, but who is paying a fee and their wages.

Godfrey, I know isn't great, but I still have a glimmer of hope for him. Just before his injury, was close to the England setup and the only one I would consider keeping due to versatility.
No chance all three will go. Leaves us with Tarks and an unproven Branthwaite. Leaves us even more exposed at full back.

Everyone we signed last year aside from the bargain bin Gueye, Tarkowski types was because of the Richarlison sale not just Maupay. And everyone we buy this summer for an actual fee will likely be enabled by selling Onana and/or Pickford.

If we signed Branthwaite from PSV for big money wouldnt he go straight into the 11 ?

Seems the same point can be made after his performances for us and PSV.

Also we could sell all 3 and sign 2 replacements.

Yes it’s not always just about like for like but I would argue that’s we would have got Tarkowski regardless of selling Richy because he was on a free. The reduction of Richarlisons salary may have help us be competitive with Tarks’ salary…that’s all. My general point is we have a history of selling our best players and replacing them with inferior players. We have slid down the table over the last few years as a result. Selling JP would not bode well for next season based on what history tells us is likely (not definite) would happen

Think you're right that Dia is the most exciting prospect of those mentioned... ...and I understand that nobody is the answer to all our prayers...so I could get behind that
