All circumstance right? Simms doesn't have to play. He's an academy lad and whether we sell or keep him it's a success. But buying someone for 15m? That guy has to have a chance to work out. So one way or another Gyokeres would hypothetically show us what he is or isn't while Simms can just not be given the chance and loads aren't even slightly bothered.
Simms isnt really an academy lad, we got him from City.

Hes been here 6 years and hes done NADA, I think we can safely say hes had his chance.

There were other flashes of him understanding how to find space in the box and get shots away. I mean at least above what the other players in that spot showed. If we had real options it would be an easy choice to sell but people are talking about needing two strikers after we sell him.

I actually thought he did reasonably well against United. I'd prefer he scored the chance but strikers miss sometimes and the way you even it out is by getting on the end of other chances. You can't do that from the bench.
There just might be a reason Sporting Lisbon are wanting to sign Gyokeres and Ipswich are signing Simms.

Their stars are being poached now and they couldn't care less, they just sit there counting the money as they already have the replacements there ready to step up. They think/plan 2 years ahead at all times. They might not have our overall history but as the 2 clubs stand in the present day they are miles ahead of us both on and off the pitch.

Didn’t they just sign Milner? Imagine if Thelwell had done that

In fairness if we keep just bringing through a striker from the academy every season, giving him a few minutes, and then flogging him to a championship team if they’re not good enough it’s not a bad strategy. Far better than keeping them forever like we did with McAleny

Do think Cannon has a fair bit more to his game than Simms.

We brought him back from loan early because we saw enough to want to give him minutes here and proceeded to not really do that. It's not what I'd describe as a chance. I know how this goes though.

We brought him back because we were desperate and seemingly couldn't afford another striker. I agree he should have been given more of a go but we don't see training and seen as Dyche didn't play him much, neither did Lampard or Carlo I think it's safe to say he isn't ready.

He showed promise at times with his finishing and vision but he's miles off this level in terms of hold up play and pressing and pace, the position we are in we can't afford to wait we need more proven and or players with a higher ceiling. It's a good deal if we sell him. He might develop into a decent player I've heard some say he's better in a two up front, but we don't play that way or have the luxury of keeping him. If we want a third option developing Cannon is probably a better bet as he is younger and shows more mobility.
