We're going for the Geelong Cats (AFL) approach. Too old, Too Slow, Too good. To be fair they did win the Grand final last year, paying for it this year though. But if we get a load of oldies for one final swansong to get us through this year, until we get to the stadium and rid of our FFP shackles then lets see how it plays out. Its a bold tactic. Might as well get Vardy in
I could understand this tactic at this stage. Next summer is the big reset. The last big year of FFP losses comes off the books combined with the remainder of the big contracts ending. They will be looking to survive and replacing this lot with younger and significantly cheaper players

Iwobi
Douc
Keane
Dele
Gbamin
Gomes
Coleman
Gana

So you'd need to take him out of the midfield spots. Wherever he plays he's still only one player.
No, I'm saying if youlre looking at a squad that we'll likely have he can be placed in two catagories. If we retain Onana then we'll have scope to play him at RB if that's required.

With Young coming in we'll have a lot of cover at RB: Coleman starts but he'll then have Patterson, Garner or Young that can slot in. A balance of experience and youth to choose from.

Because we are starved of midfielders and players in general that are composed on the ball… you want your best players on the ball as much as possible .

Also finding a decent cm is a lot harder than finding a decent full back imo
That's not been our experience for years though. We've been bereft of quality options at the back.

The game these days demands quality performances and delivery from FBs.

Who knows what will happen in CM. We have 3 with PL quality to start, and my expectation is that Dyche reverts to 2 in the middle next season.

Thats embarrassing. They've just sold gyokeres for 20m and we sell them a player with a better goal per minutes in that league for buttons.

Good job we've kept kenwright to negotiate all of these deals for us. God knows where we'd be without his negotiation skills, we may of actually got a decent fee for players.

We must be the only team in existence who lower their valuation on players when the other team has money ffs.

‘Better goals per minutes’ ratio is a real stretch. there is a reason Sporting Lisbon and a host of Prem sides wanted Gyokores and only Championship clubs were interested in Simms.

If Young was the 6th signing of the summer and all of the proceeding ones were of a younger age category and offered at least something in the way of optimism, 99% of people would have no issue with it.

Being first up, it's more of a worry as it possibly suggests this will set the tone. There is nothing to suggest it will but nothing to the contrary either.

If Young comes in he’s essentially taking Vinagres squad place, I wouldn’t stress.

Prioritise and use all available resources to forward positions.

Make it so.
Defo mate. I'm on board with the thinking on this. He slotted in well enough at a much better team than us last season, so we cant be turning our noses up at a player who did that. As @Tony'sCarp said it's just the fact he'll be a 38 year old through the door first and that looks poor given the youth discarded.

It makes total practical sense to get Young in to fill in on both flanks...or even command a starting place at LB.

He played 2037 PL mins for Villa last season mate, in comparrison to Vinagres PL 24 mins. He played in a team that qualified for Europe.

People will look at his age of course, but he’s still posting the mins at top level. In replacing Vinagre all he has to do is preform over 30 mins to make a better contribution.

He’s a utility player who gives us an option in wide positions and full back, forgives a lot of sins and the right character to have around.

He gives us more then Vinagre.

The optics I don’t mind. This deal will be easy to do as there is only the player and no other club involved As a third party to deal with Younger players, attached to a club, who score goals will take time and more work.

Yep. But I dont think anyone believes we wont be bringng firepower in up front.

Young will add vast experience at FB and can deputise for Coleman and even start over Mykolenko...so he has competition at last.

For 12 months or so that'll fill a void.
Worth a listen
