I think that's a very sensible way to look at it. A signing that enables other signings.
Has this been confirmed though ( that it is Ashley Young I mean, not that the signing has completed). As I understand it some internet meff made a cryptic comment tht we are signing someone ‘young and beautiful’ and that was somehow translated into meaning ashley young. When it could just as easily mean some fit young wench for the ladies team?

Go back and read the thread and see what was posted before insulting the poster

Realism is the order of the day mate. We’re building a squad to compete in the bottom 10. Short term this makes sense, the numbers, performance indicators and comments from Villa fans about him - need to guide us more than age here. The utility he offers and how it feeds into the budget and how that may enable others, just makes sense overall.
Precisely mate. That's succinctly put, and that's where we are. Our movement in the transfer market has to be gauged by those modest ambitions.

No more £30M spent on hopeful signings. That era has gone.

As far as I know, tofeenut is the only actual in the know who posts on here.....he works in the medical place in Newton le willows apparently.... Still doesn't mean his post equals Ashley Young though (I wouldn't mind him tbh)

He played 2037 PL mins for Villa last season mate, in comparrison to Vinagres PL 24 mins. He played in a team that qualified for Europe.

People will look at his age of course, but he’s still posting the mins at top level. In replacing Vinagre all he has to do is preform over 30 mins to make a better contribution.

He’s a utility player who gives us an option in wide positions and full back, forgives a lot of sins and the right character to have around.

He gives us more then Vinagre.

The optics I don’t mind. This deal will be easy to do as there is only the player and no other club involved As a third party to deal with Younger players, attached to a club, who score goals will take time and more work.

But was he playing well for villa because he cared about the club? And he was willing to put the club before himself?

Is he going to want to do that when he comes here? Or us he just going to go full Delph and realise he cant be bothered to push himself.

This will be his 21st year of professional football the lads body must be in agony. Is he going to push through the pain to play at relegation threatened everton or is he going to be more of the mind of im just happy to be getting paid and play the occasional game.

Well have to see, if it works out then the it'll be good business for everton but if hes comes in with the Delph mindset it'll be a calamity of a signing.

We signed onana for £34m last summer:Blink:

Its not a stretch its a fact.

Did he score more goals? No but he did have a better goals to minutes ratio that indicates hes a very suitable replacement for gyokeres a player they've just sold for 6 times the amount we've just sold simms for.

From a far smaller sample.

Do you think we have been turning down £20 million bids from Sporting and insisting he goes to Coventry for £4 mill? We can only sell him for what is offered. No clubs think he’s worth more, simple as that.
