He played 2037 PL mins for Villa last season mate, in comparrison to Vinagres PL 24 mins. He played in a team that qualified for Europe.

People will look at his age of course, but he’s still posting the mins at top level. In replacing Vinagre all he has to do is preform over 30 mins to make a better contribution.

He’s a utility player who gives us an option in wide positions and full back, forgives a lot of sins and the right character to have around.

He gives us more then Vinagre.

The optics I don’t mind. This deal will be easy to do as there is only the player and no other club involved. Younger players who score goals will take time and more work.

‘Better goals per minutes’ ratio is a real stretch. there is a reason Sporting Lisbon and a host of Prem sides wanted Gyokores and only Championship clubs were interested in Simms.

Its not a stretch its a fact.

Did he score more goals? No but he did have a better goals to minutes ratio that indicates hes a very suitable replacement for gyokeres a player they've just sold for 6 times the amount we've just sold simms for.

If we were to sign a 38 year old then i would rather it be one that played last season to a decent standard still & came in early enough to get a proper pre season under him.
That said, it sets a worrying tone.

I think that's a very sensible way to look at it. A signing that enables other signings.

It's a big risk signing a 38 year old. Yes he may have had a decent showing last year but how many 38 year olds have performed well enough in the PL.
Whose to say in typical Everton style we don't get at just the wrong time, just as he goes over the cliff.
If we scrimpand save and he's the best we can do, then we really are in trouble
