summer transfers

Given the likely appointment of a new Barcelona manager there seems to be doubts if Deulofeu will come back for a second season. No idea how true those rumours are, doubt we'll find out for a few weeks as the new manager will probably need time to assess his squad.

But assuming for the sake of argument he won't be back, and that Barcelona have been happy with the way the loan has gone, who would be a good loan from them next year? Either a youngster from Barca B or an underused player already in the senior squad.

Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere in the thread, couldn't find it on a quick search but thought I recalled some talk of an lad who'd had a lot of injuries.

Afellay, maybe, if he is healthy. He's a fine player if he's in good form he could help us out should he get a good run of form and I don't think Barca would ask for much as they never use him anymore.

Definitely agree we need to sign a striker of similar ability to lukaku if we want to compete next year. If we kept lukaku and deulofeu, a forward line of Lukaku, Gerry and Mirallas with Barkley in behind would be pretty hard to handle, especially if Ross (and maybe Gerry) were to kick on in terms of consistency.

Don't mind another few loans as long as we go out and spend money on one or two top quality players.

if martinez was here at the time of dier and mustafi do we reckon they would have left? they would have had more assurances you'd believe. all irrelevant i suppose.

According to this report Sporting are unhappy at our interest in signing Eric Dier, hopefully so, would be an ideal long term CB partner for Stones, unfortunately the £16m buy out clause quoted is prob more than we will want to spend this summer on a defender and more than he's worth at this point, maybe able to get him for less next year when he has one year left on his deal.

http://sportwitness.ning.com/forum/...ver-england-u21-leads-club-to-worry-about-fut

Sporting Lisbon are concerned about the future of their young Englishman Eric Dier. The versatile defensive player is still just 20 years old and has been attracting attention from clubs in the Premier League who would be able to offer him a salary far higher than what he currently receives with Sporting.

Dier will no doubt be aware of the disparity in wages between the Portuguese and English divisions when he meets up with the England U21 squad. Young homegrown talents here are often overpaid as demand outstrips supply.

Sporting had been relaxed about Dier's contract situation. His current deal run until June 2016 and they have no plans to change that anytime soon, not thinking they needed to. However, the interest and 'harassment' of Premier League clubs, with Everton specifically named, has changed things for Sporting.

The Portuguese club are worried that Dier's buyout clause is only €20m, a sum they don't think would be too scary for interested clubs if Dier continues his development. Therefore, a new contract and a higher clause is being prepared. Sporting will just have to hope that Dier agrees.
2 ball playing centre backs? Bit risky.

Doubt it would have been assurances; I think they'd have played. Mind you if they had we wouldn't have Stones.

You'd think both would have been Martinez type players

Not really mate, more risky to have one that's not comfortable on the ball if they are going to be asked to pass it around at the back a lot.

two ball playing centre defenders is the way forward! i think they would have been too young to be given a chance, but they would have had chances in pre-season possibly and had assurances that they would get a chance in the first team regardless of age - guess we'll have to see if they ever would have been good enough for us.

We could go one up and then Fifa it round the back 4 if we had ball playing centre backs. Hideous to watch but we'd win the league.

£85.2m .... get spending lads.

I think we will/should invest in another young CB, We currently have three 30 + defenders, one of them is 35. One thing Roberto will be judged on long term is his ability to replace the defence that Moyes built. I know that Browning is rated highly at the club but I think he will be a right back rather than a CB. I noticed at the awards night that he was much shorter than Alan Stubbs, checked up on it, he's 5 ft 11" (1.81m) which is a bit small, especially as our captain and main CB is 6 ft (1.83m), I can't see him getting games along side Stones for a few years and Distin is the guy he supposed to be replacing.

Mate he's a liability at full back, trust me.
