SuperLeague - guess who's back

I'm desperate for the super league to really happen. The scab six going their own way and a total fincial collapse is the only way well ever see football returning to something like what it used to be. It would be a rough few years for the rest of us, no doubt about it, but the new league would be stronger, fairer and better for it. With loyal fans still going the match to watch their teams for a far more reasonable price

Meanwhile after a few years of love-ins the "super league" would totally collapse. The novelty of seeing Man Utd Vs Real Madrid and Barcelona Vs the RS would soon wear off for even the glory hunting day trippers once its no longer an event and the thought of paying £80 to £100 for a single game of footie stops sounding like fun. They won't even be able to brag and glot at their friends/work colleges anymore because nobody would care what fans of scab clubs in a different league have to say.

The "super league" would 100% collapse in a decade or less once the bubble bursts.

As long as the big 6 leave our league. They want both.

The problem is the ESL scabs want the best of both worlds - they want their comp + a place in the domestic league.

Im desperate for them to leave and be told they aint returning.

Not arsed if the money and top players leave with them - give me competitive football anyday over the current circus.

It wouldn't tho.
It would be a closed house global football juggernaut with a massive global audience.
Look at the NFL. The same teams each season, 16 regular season games then playoffs. Viewing figures are still huge.
It would feel fake and might make the domestic league more competitive and even better but if they get this started, it definitely wont die.
It’s a step backwards for those used to an actual competition that penalizes failure though. My dad played American football in college and wasn’t a fan of “soccer” until I got into the competitive levels. Now he’s a huge fan and suggests it’d be better off here with the same promotion and relegation model. The drama makes this sport different.

It is a disgrace that these clubs have ruined themselves financially and are now trying to eff it up for others so as to carry on.

Ironically, the UK based clubs are generally OK as they have all been bought by billionaires.

Are they ok? I don't think they are. We're not. I suspect Chelsea are not. What happens if Saudi Arabia or Qatar becomes persona-non-grata?

The only major league properly run is the Bundesliga. That's simply because of the 50 +1 rule. If they got rid of that, then billionaires would flock to Germany to dine out on the riches of Europe's biggest economy. Thankfully, the fans still, effectively, control the clubs here. The price for that? Only Bayern are competitive in the Champions League. A price worth paying for, arguably, the best fan culture in any major football league on the planet.

I think City have probably spearheaded this and it's really just "don't kick us out the prem or we'll jump ship" - can't see it happening in any format. Ever.

I agree from a footballing perspective, but realistically, would we be willing to sacrifice Everton to make it happen? Our precarious position surely means if the rug is pulled in terms of tv revenue and prize money that we'd be one of the high profile casualties.

Well, I am thinking, that, compared to the likes of Juve, Barca Milan etc., the big 6 UK clubs are all much better placed financially. I agree that if Saudi or Qatar situation changed then it would be different but, for the forseeable future, they are here and investing heavily.

What I mean though, it'll be quite samey within a "season" or two. I watch El Classico as it's interesting when it's 2 times a year (3 if for a cup for example), as there's something in it. If it happens more times with nothing to lose - what's the hype about really?

UEFA should impose a ban on transfer fees and wages so that others can also compete and players will go to storied clubs, rather than monied clubs. But they won't, as that'll hurt the pockets and profits.

I actually don't think the proposal is that different from what we have now in terms of European competition. I would imagine that the new format would be made up of groups from different countries so you wouldn't have teams from the same country playing each other until the knock out stages.

With Barcelona and Real, they probably play each other 4 times a season anyway, with the; league, cup, supercup and champions league. with the additional games proposed by the super league the Spanish teams involved may not be able to do the domestic cups.

don't get me wrong. I'd have zero interest in it and think it's a terrible idea but millions would watch.
