Surviving Gazza...

Horrible gang of [Poor language removed].

They want to highlight Gazza's issues but there only going on TV to make money out of him.

Feel sorry for Gazza.

I thought that Cal, but by the end of the show its blatant that the man is a nutjob. I think the idea of the show going on TV was maybe a way to get him to see what he's doing to himself and them. Because he wont listen to anyone

He's a prick, as Sheryl said on the programme. He got the family back he suppposedly so desperately wanted, they tried to help him, and he [Poor language removed] off to Portugal to get wasted and locked himself inside the hotel.

They went to see him to tell him to get help, and he squared up to his son.

I used to think Gazza was a ledge and just needed to be left alone. I still think he needs to be left alone, bu only because he's a selfish ****.

Crocidile tears didn't get far with me.

I want to **** that Regan.

nery harsh that cal, if the programme did anything it revealed what his family have been and still are being put through, the eldest lad tbh as it howed has had to move on with his life or quite simply it would be too late and he wouldnt have one, they cant wipe his arse forever. good on the youngest as well for saying i dont want him here full time if this is what it's like, seemed very grown up for his age, certainly showed more maturity than his arl fella. i feel for gazza i do but after that prog i cant help feeling more for his family.

You don't think genius might be a little strong for a bloke who could barely spell his own name but for a while was a bit handy with a football?
Like.

He was a footballing genius, Robin. At least he was in the small 'g' sense. Few have matched his potential since he arrived on the scene. Shame he wasted it all.

Well after watching that last night, i thought it was very sad. I think what he is doing to his family is very wrong. He is out of control an theirs no help for him any more. He will probably die very soon, an lonley an sad man. Iv been throught the abuse his family are getting as my dad was very similar to Gazza (Alcohol wise). Cal you might say crocadile tears, try living it.

Im happy his family has washed theirs hands with him. Its all he deserves.

Very,very sad!!

My Dad used to drink alot and still does, so i have lived it.

Alot of that was very fake.

He had excellent balls skills but he was hardly a class team player, couldn't read the game and was always liable to do something stupid on the field as well as off.

If you compare him to other mercurial talents who blew it he actually did quite well for himself having avoided becoming a second Robin Friday despite having a serious drink problem, and managing to keep playing at the top 7 years longer than Best.

Although he was arguably lucky to played in a period when 'fancy dan' talent was appreciated more than in the days of say Hudson, Bowles and McKenzie.

And let's face it he's remembered mostly for crying whe he was booked.

Cal, theirs one think drinking a lot. A total other being a fully blown Alcoholic like gazza. Them mummblings, the beating, the mental abuse. My dad would come home after work an muller me an my mum. We were scared for are lives at times!! Me an my family used to have to sleep in the car at the top of Wavertree rd. It was really bad. He was locked up once for knocking 10 shades of [Poor language removed] out of me, i was only 11 years old.!!!

I really have been their. Them tears were never fake. I could feel their pain mate.

Sorry to hear this Sharps.

I've never been through that but my Dad is a drinker and his behaviour at times has been a disgrace but hes never done that.

I still think the body language made abit of it (not most) fake.

Used him for abit of cash.

Anyhoo....

I just thought they were genuin, last night anyway. But with out doubt they'v used the family name for their own benefit.

Very sad programme, unfortunately the only person who can help Gazza is Gazza, what a player he was.

Although i dont doubht the genuiness of the whole family, i dont know if it was the best thing for them or for Gazza for that to be screened publicly.

I know your not mate.

Thought it was abit fake though and done for the public sympathy.

Sometimes seeing it on film is the only way to make them realise. I think this was the last straw for them.

Hopfully he watched that last night. He's in a really dark place an needs to sort it out in his head. I think he's beyond help now. Its all down to him.

Didn't watch this programme but have thought for a long time that we're very good in the UK at discovering a new talent and then completely freaking him/her out by going overboard with attention, the media, money, sponsorship, fame etc.

Footballers often come from broken backgrounds or poorer beginnings and are very vulnerable to Gazza's sad outcome. We're all partly responsible for this by going completely crazy about the lad after Italia 90.

Ditto Beckham (different outcome but the whole thing reeks...) and Rooney (the hyperbole about his arrival contributed directly to his 'acquisition' by stretford and his departure).

I hate the celebrity culture that we've got here - it's part of the reason for Gazza's plight.

You mean for a short period in his 20s he was a bit handy with a football, but that his ability to make use of his actually quite limited talents faded as he got older ?

And at least my family can construct sentences.

should read - 'greatest England player ever'.
Either way it's a quite profoundly sad statement.

I know exactly what I mean and i'm sure everybody else did as well. Pedantic little scrote. Just because you disagree with someones views there's no need to start picking little holes in their English

Either way it's quite sad that you can't construct an argument and have to resort to such tactics

I bet whatever little country you crawled out from has never produced a footballer of Gazza's ability

He was incredible on the ball, which is why I believe the tag "genius" is warranted. His lack of intelligence perhaps did hamper his ability to read the game. Similarly, his tendency to idiotic behaviour on and off the field didn't help him realise his vast potential. But nonetheless there was something in him that set him apart from other people. Gazza belongs to that rare group of British footballers that could make you sit up, watch and enjoy the beautiful game.
