I still think we should buy a right-back, though. With Moyes having bid for Naughton a while back and missed out on him, I'm hoping Moyes will get a top-class right-back before the deadline. Neville and Hibbert can do a decent job, but I think (after the signing of Distin), it's still our weakest link in defence.

Good signing, not worried about the odd million or two over priced. That little bit extra wouldn't go far anyway.

My point was we've overpaid for him and its an odd signing for Moyes. Name one other player Moyes has spent a decent amount on who is over the age of 28? - Distins 31.

Goughy was practically a dinosaur (in football terms) when he came to us and he was a rock. Granted, he was a bit of a freak of nature in the fitness department but still, CB's can be solid well into their late 30's.

All things considered, if we overpaid it wasn't by much. Certainly not as bad as we just ripped off City.

Moyes never pays over the odds for a player, we have needed someone in quick so paying a million more will be better then getting someone in who doesnt have a clue and losing 10 points along the way. Good business i think

I think we will always need to sell before we buy, happens every year. This time we have held out for a decent amount, hope it's spent wisely, seems to be so far.

I like Distin, he will complement either Yobo or Jags, giving bit of left CB balance. He can cover LB, and gives us a bit more experience and composure - isn't prone to Lescottesque casual moments.
