Doubt it considering he is paying £5m and over £40k a week now.

Don't get me wrong, as I said on the first post of this thread, I rate him but it is definitely a panic buy. His age, the fee and the fact Moyes didn't want him when he was free heavily suggests so.

We had Lescott then mate, and we went for Jagielka instead which turned out acer.

He'll win you over in about six games I reckon.

I was disappointed we didn't bring him in when he was free, but I'm guessing that Moyes certainly looked into it (why wouldn't he?) but was put off by his wages. I presume Pompey were paying him over £40k a week.

Everyone seems to be deserting pompey now. My candidate for going down this year. He'll be ok for us neb, i can feel it in my bones. Be great for the younger players around him too. This is a good signing. Yes he's 31 but thats not old for a CB. He'll give us some much needed experience at the back and he's a big lad with a good head. (y)

financially , 5 + million for a 31 year old isnt that good.

but quality wise , its a great buy.

experienced , covers 2 of our weakest squad positions ( cb+lb ) and out of almost all the defenders we have been linked with he is probably the most skilled.

We don't know how much he's paying now, Danny. Plus, a couple of seasons ago Moyes hadn't lost Lescott or was armed with circa £30m.

I prefer reactive buy rather than panic buy. He's seen the gap needs plugging, and has decided to go with experience. That's a good short-term solution.

Distin over Dunne any day tbh. OK, prob panic buy, but he's not exactly untested in the prem and he is a good pro. Shame we couldn't get Hangeland who I really rate, but needs must.

...and hopefully his experience will bring on Shane Duffy, who Moyes has already asked him to step up his game and challenge for the first team.

Not about winning me over. Distins been in the Prem for nearly 10 years so I know what we are getting and thats a good player...

My point was we've overpaid for him and its an odd signing for Moyes. Name one other player Moyes has spent a decent amount on who is over the age of 28? - Distins 31.

Agree that 5+ million for a 31 year old, is an awful lot of money, but as a player I do rate him. Think he's better than Dunne and certainly better than Robert Huth. Also, we do need experience at the back, something that Distin will definately provide. So, all in all not such a bad piece of busisness. Now lets get that Shawcross in, with an eye on the future.

I know mate but its the market isnt it.

Distin should be able to slot right in and perform for a couple of years which is what we need right now.

Couldnt really take a risk on buying potential which might not fill the void of Lescott.

Moyes doesn't normally pay a considerable amount for a short-term solution, thats my point (y)
