Tactical Side of Rafael Regime

Is this where we write nonsensical tactics so when other teams scouts come and check our forums, we tell them we play 5 at the back everyweek and don't worry about Townsend cause he's trash.

To answer the OP's question - its interesting that Carlo and Rafael both want to try and find a balance in the side, but they take really different approaches. For Carlo it was about balancing the number of attackers and defenders in the team, and he was more concerned about his side rather than the opponent except the big teams like a Man City or Chelsea where he'd be more cautious. I don't think he really had any influence over the game tactically, he had his philosophies on how to play, he tried to help players individually like DCL and that was about it. I think in all honesty in the 18 months he was here he was tactically worse than I thought. Maybe at the very highest level it's not all that tactical - because if you're at Real Madrid and you have a bunch of Galacticos, you just have to dribble around 10 players and score.

Rafael's balance is different, he wants his players to both attack and defend. His attacks are also extremely direct, its two or three forward balls and its in the box or ready for a cross. The defence is scattered. The goals Demarai Grey has scored exemplify this. He's also got fitness levels up, and speed his up as well. The slowest player is now Keane, and then maybe its Allan who is not slow and he has endurance. And the team could be even faster, but for now its impressive. He's covered for Coleman by adding Townsend who tracks back. Coleman looks fine now. I'll be interested to see how Rafael deals with having 4 quality CBs.

…just because we won doesn’t hide that we were tactically poor yesterday.

3 CBs meant we played with a back 5 and we were overrun, it was no surprise when we went a goal down and the change should have happened earlier.
He sorted it out half time v saints and last night, all credit to him, Carlo would have sat on his hands .
