Thank You Bill Kenwright Plane Banner

I'm genuinely baffled as to what he's being thanked for?

For not selling us to Sheikh Mansour? For refusing to sell us for 15 years? For us winning nothing in his tenure as owner? For us losing all of our best players over the years?

Honestly - what was the thank you for? Would he also have been thanked if he wasn't an Evertonian but had provided just as little investment?

My guess...

Its more than a little bit better to be fair.

People hide behind him being a blue like its something bad, but fact is, the ones that normally spout that line are his detractors and most of your average fans are against the hate he gets, simply because of the above being massive progress from where we were pre Bill at the helm. Him being a blue is just a good thing about him and is simply a bonus.

The other thing to consider is that high on the list of priorities for the average fan is not what header financial information is kept, or whether someone in a bedsit once got stopped from buying the club by Bill (which is somehow a bad thing), but its the football, the manager, the players, and right now, probably the Chairman's ill health.

And when someone, who despite what some say, has actually had a positive impact on the footballing fortunes of the football club is very ill, and has recently had personal and inaccurate insults flown over the club he loves, maybe.. just maybe, they considered a plane with a nice message appropriate. Perhaps when someone is as ill as he is, something nice is better than another nasty and snidey public comment about him..

That's my thoughts.. I've been involved in neither plane tbh, and the first one that was sent up I thought was quite good, then the next one was just a cheap insult which I was concerned would happen.. well not that cheap :).

This one at least has some meaning.. whereas 'Your failures are your legacy' is just blatantly not true and just unnecessary. His legacy will be one of on field progress and taking us into the riches of the latest premier league TV deal with a very strong squad against a background of off field failings including missed stadium and takeover opportunities.

Personally I'm saving up for the cheese on toast option. But in answer to your question.. I'd guess at least some of the above is why he's being thanked.

I admire the effort in that post, but in all honesty all that basically boils down to is "in the last 12 years Kenwright has made two good decisions when appointing managers who can perform on a very strict and limited budget".

I'm interested in what specifically he has done for this club that deserves such praise?

PS Hope he gets better soon

Here's what you could have had instead.

Trevor Birch recommended he build a side around Rooney and build the club out of debt that was threatening to push us into oblivion. Bill thought otherwise, Birch left, Rooney went.

You could also have what was described as the 'deal of the century' - except Bill told some porkies and there was no money. £30m invested here could have transformed the club.

Your showing a huge lack of knowing your history. Bill was on the board long before True Blue Holdings took over. We'll never know whether he voted for or against many of Peter Johnson's more interesting wheezes.

For his partner, his and his children's sake, I hope he recovers fully from what looks a pretty miserable illness. But let's not beatify the man.

I do mate.. I do. He questioned why people thanked Bill.. I merely listed probable reasons
I think the answer to that was solved a few weeks back: IIRC the man behind it was a WSAG forum user (and the forum's members on a wind up was backing it).

It was a huge wind up to get under the skin of the other lot flying protest planes. Nothing heartfelt about it.

We the only team that got that then?

I'd suggest ginger bollocks was the key to it: using sparingly the few pennies he was able to attract away from the Other Operating Costs funds (c/o the BVI).

Kenwright, I think I can confidently state without fear of exaggeration, has nothing to do with any uptick in the club's playing or financial fortunes.
