She celebrated scoring an important goal by taking her top off, cos she is a footballer.

Not cos she is a woman.

Same way countless male footballers have taken their shirts off for the same reason.

Not cos they are a man.

Thats what empowerment is all about.

(and she was booked, again, as a man would have been.)
 

I think its the whole old fashioned ‘women should be seen and not heard’ and are brought up to be meek and mild rather than behaving like a lad.

It’s definitely not as much a thing nowadays as it was but some older women will take pride in that fact and make posts like that.

The world is becoming less and less sexist and racist and homophobic every year I reckon by the time I’m old people will just do whatever they want without worrying what anyone will say.
I remember thinking something similar in my teenage years. Very little has changed in the 30+ yrs since in the grand scheme of things.
 
You tell me .... seems anything ordinary that a woman does these days is called empowering by the BBC and similar media.

The fart my missus laid down yesterday would probably be described as such in that it emptied a room.
Inspirational. Such courage. A true role model.
