List all the big players in the world.

USA
China
EU
India
Russia

Only one of those above is and has been increasing in economic, political and "living space" over the years. Heck even see the number of member states that the EU has risen from in a very short space of time.

The EU trampled on Russia's toes and putins had none of it, and they are currently doing the same in Moldova. The EU will push one of the big boys only so far, if that's before the people on the ground don't bring the corrupt organisation down before then.

So Russia invaded Ukraine because the EU stood on its toes. that is still rhetoric, Not evidence.

Because the EU was muscling in on its patch. When the USSR shoved missiles on Cuba it nearly caused nuclear warfare as it was on America's door step. Putin acted in the wrong no doubt but your very naive if you can't see that the EU are essentially doing what the USSR did in their "bloc". They will do it until putin bitch slaps them and I hope he does.

It can be fully explained by the prolonged recession and sluggish economy. Basically, people have less money in their pockets, and look for something to blame for it.

Foreigners are the go to scapegoat throughout history for this. It is absolutely no coincidence that the rise of UKIP has came off the back of a recession.

But they are, ultimately, a protest vote, and will never be anything more. The problem that Labour supporters jumping ship don't realise is that they are effectively voting Tory by voting UKIP. They'll get a coalition Tory/UKIP government, which would be an absolute nightmare.

And if Milliband had any political talent whatsoever (which he doesn't), he'd be pointing this out over and over again.
Except, Labour supporters are not jumping ship - quite the opposite. It is Tory supporters fleeing. As I posted earlier,

It's going to be a very interesting election next year. Completely unpredictable from right here, right now.

Hopefully, we'll get rid of those dreadful tories and see off the UKIP-RACIST goons.

I can acknowledge when a political party I dont support does something well.

Not sure some on here can. Just saying.

Blind to any opposition thinking, loaded with inflammatory rhetoric, using anything that ever goes wrong in a country as a stick to bash whomever they disagree with (foreigners/Tories/whomever). Sounds a bit like the kind of thing that usually got Nik removed from these kind of threads. It does seem as though such behaviour is fine, just so long as it isn't leaning a certain way.

What is it that's going to change?. I mean I can just see Burnham talking to Simon Stevens now "yeah, you know that 5 year plan you drew up last month, yeah, well, we'll change that completely should we get into office next year..."

I can't see that happening in the slightest. We also have a growing economy and yet the budget deficit hasn't budged one jot, so whoever gets in will have to face up to that reality, which with health/education/aid ring-fenced, will likely mean even more cuts to other services.

I'm sure Labour can somehow magic away this reality though and manage to increase spending without taking on huge amounts of new debt. I'm sure they'll reverse the medium-term plan of the newly appointed (former Labour Councillor) NHS England chief executive, whilst simultaneously accepting that if things carry on as they are (demographically), the NHS will swallow up an ever larger chunk of national GDP (and is already 250% more than it was when the service was formed and is predicted by the King's Fund to go from 8% of GDP to 20% if things don't change).

I'm sure a good bit of partisan politics is just what we need to help tackle some of these challenges.

Only if one party gets a clear mandate to govern.

UK does not do coalition well (unless in time of war) and it looks increasingly likely that the Lib Dems will be in total meltdown with only a handful of seats.
Personally, I think UKIP will take seats off both Tory & Labour and could even hold the balance of power. Be interesting to see how Farage gets in to bed with then.

More likely the SNP will hold the balance of power imo. Rather have an outright majority for anyone rather than that.

Knew the Sweaties should have got independence :(

Not right that the Scots can have so big an influence over UK policies. At least we in Wales know our place (the cap is doffed & the forelock tugged. What the hell, we even gave you Neil Kinnock to laugh at)
