Put it this way .... there's a massive space where my nuts were.

Cost of production 28-30 pence per litre
Current value on farm 21 to 25 ppl depending on contract.

If this carries on much longer, there wont be a UK dairy industry and we can all rely on other countries for our pinta, cheese AND PIZZA toppings.

Someone is taking the p!ss

That does sound rough. Is most milk sold in the UK sourced from this country?

Worse than I thought. You in the game mate?

Wish it was a game :). Just been told today that another 1.5 ppl is coming off from 1st Jan.

Partly the fault of Russia "invading" Ukraine with EU putting export bans in place. Knackered the EU cheese export trade esp if you farm in Latvia, Estonia & Lithuania where their farmers are getting less than 13ppl.

However in this country, we are dictated to by the Supermarkets aided & abetted by the Government as cheap food keeps the populace happy even if at the risk of food security

Incredibly we are not self sufficient in any common food product and import between 10-15% of our milk needs including liquid and cheese. With the latest cuts, that gap will grow as more farmers quit. Ultimately we will be left with superfarms

Yeah but that'll all be sorted out when we boot the foreigners out.

VOTE UKIP

Is it a similar situation for other foodstuffs or does milk seem to bare the brunt?

It must be so frustrating. I live in a very rural area, and Mrs R is a (retired) farmers daughter, so understand bits and bobs about it. And like you allude to, it is so short sighted. The agriculture industry could feed the UK imo, IF, someone who knew about it was involved at Government level. And I mean any Government.

This is one of the few issues that cant really be laid at one party. None of them get it I dont think. Same with power generation.

Ask @Milk about "Welsh" lamb. Is what I heard the other week true mate? About NZ lambs being shipped over here, spend a week or so on a Welsh farm, then labelled as Welsh Lamb. Or something like that.

We, UK, are only 60% self sufficient in food stuffs and that is falling year on year as land is lost to development etc and via trade agreements etc

Milk is a fragile commodity in its raw state so has to be processed within 24 -48 hours so our processors have us by the balls and the supermarkets have the processors likewise.

That's all I'm prepared to apologise for I'm afraid. What is it you want me to apologise to him for? Thinking his style of posting is wrong?

I think the common expectation, when you've been unnecessarily ad hominem, is to apologise to the poster and not for your behaviour. There is a difference.

You're not doing yourself any favours here, by the way.

There is a massive disconnect between town & country and MPs don't have a clue in truth.
Interestingly, until recently farming did better under a Labour Gov ... until they put Margaret Beckett in charge and then compounded the error with Hilary Benn.

Bit of an Urban myth. NZ lamb comes across the sea chilled ready to be cut up but they do export to the Gulf live to meet Halal slaughter regs.
HOWEVER, there are many truths about Scottish beef not actually been reared in Scotland and a lot of Welsh lamb has an English accent and don't always believe the word ORGANIC either
