That's a shameful post.

You don't have to have a solution to point out that something is wrong or isn't working. It simply doesn't follow and is in fact one of the typical tactics of those in any position of power. Would you, for example, have expected the slaves of the southern states in the USA to have come up with a viable economic alternative before they opened their moaning gobs?

I seriously think you should consider resigning as a mod if you're going to make sly posts like that, Bruce.

And i think Bruce is a fine mod and poster you should pipe down. Luckily neither of us has any authority.

There is a massive disconnect between town & country and MPs don't have a clue in truth.
Interestingly, until recently farming did better under a Labour Gov ... until they put Margaret Beckett in charge and then compounded the error with Hilary Benn.

Christ, tell me about it. We could be in danger of straying into really really volatile stuff, (foxes, badgers, rural poverty et al) so I will leave it at that!

Bit of an Urban myth. NZ lamb comes across the sea chilled ready to be cut up but they do export to the Gulf live to meet Halal slaughter regs.
HOWEVER, there are many truths about Scottish beef not actually been reared in Scotland and a lot of Welsh lamb has an English accent and don't always believe the word ORGANIC either

Ah, was on the right lines then. Organic is the biggest con ever imo. We keep ex battery hens, just 1/2 doz or so. After a few weeks of normal feed, corn and layers pellets, and scratching around the garden, the eggs they lay are superior to anything "organic" shops will have. By a mile.

And they have spent the previous 2 years in the dark, pumped full of rubbish.

Of course, that doesn't escape from the fact that few politicians really have a clue how 'the other half' live. That applies to those of whatever stripe. I mean Vince Cable today, with the best will in the world, he doesn't really have much of a clue what it's like for an entrepreneur trying to grow a business. That's just not his background.

And is it yours? Is it Gideon Osborne's? Is Cable really as clueless as you make out (as though you are a higher authority than he) or are you being a bit disingenuous (political, even!) here? I'm not a massive fan of Cable these days but I think he might know a tiny bit more than you.

Let's see:

WIKI:

"Cable studied economics at the University of Cambridge and the University of Glasgow, before becoming an economic advisor to the Government of Kenya between 1966 and 1968 and to the Commonwealth Secretary-General in the 1970s and 1980s. From 1968 to 1974 he lectured in economics at Glasgow University. Later, he served as Chief Economist for Shell from 1995 to 1997."

Well, I suppose he might not know exactly what it's like to be an entrepreneur trying to grow a small business but I suspect he does have more of a clue than most.

The question then becomes does that really matter? Does their (lack of) credibility sufficiently damage the message they're trying to get across?

Is that really the question?

When it comes to the average man, I'd suggest that anyone in the media is almost disqualified from the off because by the time they've reached celebrity status then they're probably pretty well off, therefore have little in common with the average person.

As I say, the question is therefore, does that matter?

I seriously question right-wing think-tankers asking us if anything matters, especially when they suddenly start showing an interest in "the average man" - somebody who usually plays no part in their considerations.

Mate, might be a good idea if you and @Bruce Wayne had this conversation over a pint in a weeks time - I think we all know each of your respective views.

In my defense, esk, I've taken my personal differences to PM already. I'd hope that my previous post was seen as on-topic. Is this thread not an exchange of political views in light of an oncoming general election?

The Welsh lay claim to every part of the island south of the Antonine Wall though, so all lamb from that region is de facto Welsh.

I'm not really sure the problem here? I don't think I ever tried to suggest that I'm smarter than Vince Cable (nor even that he's doing a bad job), merely that he didn't appear to have much of an idea on the report his department had published a few days prior to my meeting him and seemed a fish out of water in the innovation hub that I met him in.

I'm sure if the conversation was around economic theory or something he'd run absolute rings around me, but he's not the Chancellor is he, he's the minister for business and innovation. Does an economist for government departments with two years at Shell qualify you to understand that field? I'm not so sure.

If you read back I also said that he's probably better qualified for his post than many other ministers are for theirs. Was wotshisname (the bloke you hated) qualified to be education minister? Andy Burnham seems very well versed in the politics of healthcare but has never actually worked in the industry and isn't medically trained at all and has been in politics all of his working life (according to Wiki).

Hence my latter question. Does that matter? Do we expect ministers to have experience in the fields they pertain to lead? Or are we in a kind of Yes Minister situation still whereby the civil servants who do have the subject matter knowledge tend to run rings around the ministers who don't?

Well done for showing how bad the Tories are as they have an agenda, so keep pointing out what they are doing. As they are the ones running the country they are the ones responsible for the sanctions regime at the dole and responsible for the growing need for foodbanks.
