Lol I don't know why your assuming I advocate this im merely pointing out its a guardian over reaction as governments have stuck to this principle in its different forms for years (again my example of refusing to pay ransoms for captive nationals) I would prefer they do help but that's not the case
Aside from the fact that this is being reported in very similar terms all over the place not just the Guardian, you are saying you agree with them - strange then that you accuse them of "OMG OMG OMG" overreaction.

Because the guardian assume governments put people's lives ahead of strategy's which isn't the case and will never be. It's why the Yanks have the 2nd ammendment and whilst we laugh at them and think our governments warm and cosy with its welfare system, you dig a little deep and realise theirs a reason people are skeptical of governments. If they cared mate they would pay ransoms to stop our own from getting killed, they don't do so I don't get why the guardians shocked that they are stopping this that's my point.

Ahhhhh this explains it.

Ahhhhh this explains it.

Explains what? You've ignored all my post and the fact I actually agree with you to push through a "WACIST WACIST!" argument.

If the government isn't compassionate enough to save it's own people's lives you really think they are gonna go above and beyond to help people from half way across the world? Your deluded if you think so mate and I advocate helping these people.

The left make me laugh though, they don't trust the government yet THEY stand for BIGGER Government! It's hypocrisy it's like hating your abusive husband yet advocating he go drink more and hit the gym so his biceps get even bigger. It's sad as it's why the left are finished in this country, I'm a traditional old labour ie left on economics and right on crime and immigration and the left have become so distorted we have been left with the Tories and tories in red

Cute

Be compassionate and donate half your wages this month to Amnesty International

Not the most intelligent of responses, mate.

I think it's perfectly reasonable to expect our government to recognise that, in truth, as long as there is inequality in the world, a section of the poorer people will take enormous personal risks to try to improve their lot (their children, of course, will almost certainly not have been part of the decision making process) and enter western European countries. Once we've accepted that, we must inevitably accept that some people (including children) will die in their attempts. Surely, any decent country would do something to try to prevent these deaths. It's not like we're actually letting them in!
