The Ashes 2013 Thread

In their defence I have to admit that whilst I was over there I approached every Test & ODI in the same way, telling them what we were gonna do to them etc etc then when even their A team battered us it was almost as if it hadnt even happened the following day.

Weird situation when Wigan arrived to play Brisbane Bronco's in a World Club thing as I was wanting the Brionco's to win and all of Sydney was behind Wigan.
The pie-eaters did them, 'Chariots' Offiah was like goddam Usain Bolt that night, prompting the Sydney lot to ask wtf he's on ? praying he wouldn't get caught by the authorities and the result be overturned.

interesting what holding said about teams who go through good eras and bad eras. If we compare the series of 2005 to now, aus only have 1 player remaining from that series whilst england only have 2 themselves, so how come england have been able to replace their star men from that era whereas aussies haven't?

2005 vs now Ashes XI

Strauss
Cook
Trott
Pietersen (2005)
Bell (2013)
Flintoff
Prior
Swann
Broad
Anderson
Harmison

Broad vs Simon Jones was a tough one. Broad gets it because of a) batting and b) jones' injuries. But it shows how england have been able to replace those from 2005 where the aussies haven't

Langer
Hayden
Ponting
Clarke (2013)
Martyn
Katich
Gilchrist
Warne
Lee
Gillespie
McGrath

i know it was a very good team in 2005, but so was england's (hence winning the series) but you could barely make a claim for replacing any of the aussies from 05 with today's team. Only a sniff would be siddle? for gillespie, but that would only be basing it on his form in the ashes of '05.

anyone like to state why?

Lad at work backed 10-0.
This series and the winter one.
I said no chance... Surely not ??

i didn't know you knew botham. england won't win all 10 - that's only bangladesh and zimbabwe territory surely. aussies will sneak a draw from somewhere. i put a couple of leftover quid on 4-0 for this series, think i may have to pray for rain here. thought i was gunna lost it after the first test

he said england would win 10-0. root ripping them a new one, it's definitely a possibility. especially if england's batsmen get their act together. firstly, i want to see no aussies 100's in this series - that would be a first?

jesus nelly, what are they doing with these reviews? surely a batsman knows he's hit it. I reckon they think there's a flaw with hotspot and a very faint edge won't show up so they're taking a risk
