Clever cricket???

Nope

Getting batsmen out is good cricket. Not trying to run them out at the end if an over.

If someone did that in a club game you'd be embarrassed for them
It's Bairstow who should be embarrassed. The ball doesn't go dead when the keeper catches it, and a professional cricketer (and wicket keeper as well) like Bairstow should know it.

Actually thought the lyons debacle was worse from a captaincy point if view. Was like world war 1 leadership
Possibly. But if Lyon knew he's done for the series he possibly demanded to bat. I suppose we dont know if he was asked to bat or was adamant himself.

I have no time for anyone who tries those sneaky run outs or to run the non striker out. It makes me mad at any level of cricket. Everyone who has ever played cricket knows when someone is actually trying to run a single.

Do we now need the umpire to declare the ball is dead every single delivery?

I like Cummins but he should not be appealing there and I reckon he will probably accept he made an error.

Well he won't do it again!
In the circumstances I think the Aussie captain might have withdrawn the appeal.
We don't want all that unseemly booing and chanting at Lord's.

Sport isn't just about the letter of the law. If teams are going to try a run out like this then why not every other ball too? Players leave their ground during the over regularly at all levels of cricket.
The starc catch was to the letter of the law as well despite it obviously being a clean catch. Both incidents don't sit right with me btw.

I think the skipper has to be the leader there, tell Lyons to sit back.

The stumping would actually bother me more if it was my team than the oppo if that makes sense. I'm not that fussed about it right now but maybe Cummins will look back and think there are more important messages than win at all costs.

Baristow incident gives England an excuse. Reality is they weren’t good enough at the key moments again.

Bowling performance on the first day lost it for them. Should have won 1 of these first two.
Just a few more runs (50ish) in both first innings would have won or the very least drawn these matches. With that fight back it feels like they've thrown both.

As you say bowling was poor on the first day of this match. Fielding poor in the first match.

This. The previous ball Cary noticed that Bairstow wandered away from his crease without checking to see what happened to the ball. So the next ball, instead of throwing the ball to another fielder he threw it at the wicket just as Bairstow wandered off. Clever cricket from Cary, stupid by Bairstow.
Wicketkeepers often have a little shy at the stumps after collecting the ball. Usually the batsmen are not brain dead and stay in the crease until the ball is really dead

Well he just confirmed he's happy with what happened so unfortunately I think he's made a big error.

England need to respond in kind and remove the bails every time an Australian batsmen leaves their crease mid over at Headingley.

If they think that's proper cricket then fine. Play in the exact same manner.

That's against the spinners though which is different as they are a lot closer for them.
