If you follow cricket which you said you don't you'll realise the fault is with Australia, but more so the grey area of sportsmanship in the professional era, and to what level it is applied.
AFAIK the feller just had to down his bat in the crease to make that situation not happen. To blame his opponent for running him out is absurd. I think you and the other England cricket fans know it too.

I'm not actually an English cricket fan, although I've enjoyed their short lived Renaissance. I've played cricket for 20 years, of a very high standard, would I run him out? Perhaps in the moment. Would I recall him? Absolutely. Thus is the biggest scene in the cricketing world though, where winning can mean everything, and the grey areas of sportsmanship are becoming murkier.

England have committed similar in the past, so it's hard to be sympathetic to them, but I sympathetic to the place of the game in the modern era.

I’m not a cricket fan at all, but it’s a competitive sport and not a jolly afternoon in the sun. It’s a shame that the gentleman’s approach to the game seems to have gone away but the umpires had little choice really…..
