Just seen the controversial decision - my opinions are Bairstow was a complete fool as he should have tapped his bat down & the Aussie keeper was too, but rules are rules - but in the spirit of the game the captain should have just reversed it & won the game in the correct manner...as you say ill feelings will now carry on for the rest of the series ..... I always waited for the umpire to shout over TBH they both had a bad game imo .....Next week anytime a batsman leaves their crease before over is called, you could have a farcical situation of someone trying to run them out or stump them. Even if its just to go and tap down the pitch or something or to chat quickly
Intent is not mentioned in the law as far as I'm aware but its important. If they are not attempting a run then that matters and obviously they shouldn't be run out.
Just play the game properly and let the best team win. Which they did, but they didn't need to do that and it was rubbish sportsmanship

And good that he did, but he still did it. Hopefully Cummins will do likewise and realise the error of not calling the player back. Carey wouldn't have the brainless to understand the scope of what he's done.Brendon McCullum apologises to Kumar Sangakkara for a controversial run out of Muttiah Muralitharan in 2006
Back in December 2006, during the second innings of the first Test between New Zealand and Sri Lanka at Christchurch, McCullum was involved in a very controversial run out of Muralitharan that led to a big stir in the cricket fraternity.www.cricketcountry.com
Mccullum was very young at the time to be fair to him, and as said had the grace to apologise. I think Cummins is a decent human being, if he can get the links of Warner and Smith out of his ear we might hear something.remember that, theres no winners in though situations. I don't blame Carey as you do things in the moment but ultimately it just isn't great for the sport. I remember NZ crying about something Collingwood did not long after with a run out and thinking hang on after what you did to Murali. I think the umpires getting together with the fielding skipper and saying is this what you want might help.
chapell calling out beefy for cowardice?
To be fair to Smith I think it really affected him. He didn't seem to celebrate much, dropped Stokes and was first to commiserate when he was outMccullum was very young at the time to be fair to him, and as said had the grace to apologise. As a cricketer, he would make a good binman lolI always enjoy stumbling across a new thread Dave has set his stool in, and push the follow button immediately.
Yes, I would complement a player who is out, & you now know you have won the game .....He just knows he's on the telly. Don't like him one bit.
