I think that’s a fair reflection mate. If you did a combined side from the series, possibly only khawaja, Smith, Starc and Cummins will get in the combined teams based on their performances. In saying that the loss of Lyon was no doubt the turning point in the series. But as both captains said, 2-2 was probably a fair result.I don't know if I'm a hard marker of the players but I don't think we've got the better players. A lot of our players are in or entering the twilight of their careers and Marnus who I think is proper world class has been scratching around at the crease for a while now till his last innings. I would honestly say on paper your team edges ours.
While not in the same league, leach before a ball was bowled was massive for us too...stone and archer too, wood missing the first two...I think that’s a fair reflection mate. As someone mentioned above, it’ll be interesting how Baz Ball works without those two. We’ve got some good bowlers, but they’re special.Going to very strange not seeing the pair of them not changing the ball next summer

Your posts in this thread? I agree with you there mate. Great predictions this summer.Embarassing when you look back at it.
Leach really wasn’t a massive loss and the side had a better balance to it when Ali replaced Pope. While not in the same league, leach before a ball was bowled was massive for us too...stone and archer too, wood missing the first two...
Pope a major miss also, as well as losing stokes bowling.
My thoughts, as the rain saved Aus last test, I think the small rain delay today won it for England, got a bit of moisture into a flat wicket and broke the run the Aussie batsmen were on. Terrific bowling all the same.
Kev has got pretty much everything wrong in this thread but one thing he's said is true imo in that there's no way this England team wins an Ashes series down under unless it sorts a couple of obvious cracks in its side.
Great series to watch though, good on McCullum and Stokes for trying to reinvent the game, boring boring Aussies.
100% agree with you, Anderson has a very poor record in Australia, Broad has got better over the years down there but I think that coincides with more lefties in their lineup. They will also need to address the wicket keeping selection, truly believe if they'd taken Foakes England would have won the Ashes.Anderson and Broad having retired solves the biggest problem with that side IMHO.
Where's @Kev The Rat ?Can't see aus chasing this.

Foakes also averages around 40 and its going up, it's not like he's a bunny, he's a decent bat. I really like Bairstow as a batsman, he's not played all that well this summer unfortunately.some of the keeping this series has been atrocious - that Root catch in the first innings was amazing but Bairstow just watched it go past him
Did you see JB's catch today?some of the keeping this series has been atrocious - that Root catch in the first innings was amazing but Bairstow just watched it go past him
