thing is it will be the same top 5 next test, btw jimmy anderson and broad have kept the top 5 in a job for the last 2 years

Reminding me a bit of the Indian top order that has finally all retired, Sehwag, Ganguly, Dravid, Tendulkar, Laxman. All terrific records, never really stood up when it needed, especially together. Now, this England team has achieved more than the Indians of the 2000s did, but at some point a change will be needed.

One thing though, you don't average around the 50s unless you're one hell of a player, and that applies to that top 5.

and swann. Been saying it for too long. Ever since 2010 ashes, they've been ****ing terrible. That performance in Pakistan - OH MY DAYS, it was embarassing. couldn't beat NZ away and weren't even making good scores on absolute roads against a rank average bowling attack.

They finally got their act together in India after a sluggish start, but 3-0 was not a true reflection of the series a few months back. Was single handedly won by the bowlers and bell. They will be absolutely shattered at the end of this year.

problem is, you hear all these highly rated young kids coming through. (I'm basing this on the handful of appearances so far by the way and am in no way righting them off) None have really stood out or looked comfortable at this level. I.e. Bairstow, Stokes, Woakes, James Taylor, Root has looked pretty good tbf, but only got a couple of good scores.

Like i said, not writing them off already, that's stupid, just saying, in the now, if any of the top 5 were to be dropped, who would come in that'd be better? Bopara again?
