Well in the link i posted earlier (i know its daily mail but it was them who done it) attempted to take all those variables into account when ranking who the biggest team are.

the problem is ...how do you balance the history/trophies and todays over all situation of the club when you are talking about who is bigger.

can we find a solution to this? i think we cant.

attendances...historical stature of the club...current incomes....current player materials..etc etc...

The mail article that death's quoted puts us a bit above them, but you could use a different set of measures and get a different answer.

To be honest, it's not important. I'm a Blue, I think we're ace, Villa fans will think they're the bees knees too. For them to think they're a bigger club, or at least the same size as us is completely natural. If it was Sunderland or West Brom saying they're bigger than us it'd be ludicrous.

It was what YOU said that annoyed me. You haven't directly labelled me a kopite, no, but you've accused me of kopite behaviour. You had one argument and that was: "Because villa have won more trophies"

Any other argument was either avoided or dismissed out of hand.

On another board i post on (WRESTLING!) when that chart was posted some Hull fan tried to claim Leeds were bigger than Everton.

I just laughed.

They've won two major trophies since before the First World War.

They're about as worthy of comparison to Everton as we are to Real Madrid.

You really are a tit aren't you? You're the one agreeing with/ praising the kid. You're the one inferring Villa are bigger because they've won more trophies. And anyone who disagrees/ posts to the contrary is a kopite.

Nevermind that their city's around five times* bigger than ours and has two clubs. You're a kopite if you say that liverpool's in the same (lesser-populated) city as us & they win things and are supported, whereas birmingham city win nothing and get crowds of circa 20k. Proof indeed, I'm just a kopite at heart

They've never drawn an average crowd of >50k in any season. But saying we have somehow makes me a kopite, as big clubs don't reaslly have big followings to match and never had have

Their ground holds something like 2.5k more than ours, but if that doesn't make them infinitely more massive than us, then I'm a dirty rat-kopite.

They've consistently finished below us in the league for aeons now, but saying so somehow makes me a kopite

They've plumbed the depths of Div3 but saying so is RAWKish behaviour.

Their last trophy was a season after our last trophy - but that makes me a bullying kopite.

I could reel off a list of 'firsts' but they'd make me a kopite with no consideration for the opinion of fans of other clubs - even if they are only 14

So that's that, then - I'm a kopite. But Everton are still bigger AND BETTER than villa.

Villa won the European Cup when it was just a knock out competition, hardly the same level of achievement as winning the Champions League, about as significant a victory as when we won the CWC.

We're the bigger club. Bigger following historically, more successful in the league at present, more successful in the last 100 years.
