Sounds like Des Lynam was instigating most of that to be fair; Venables did at least try to go back to talking football rather than contracts.

RIP Terry Venables, always came across as a chirpy character. His Crystal Palace team in the late seventies were a great watch, built mainly from youth players.

Ironic to see tributes to Venables from Sky, the channel which he was never invited to go on again after he said the word 'woofters' live on air on Goals On Sunday back in 2014.

Very good coach though who should of been England manager for longer but as an above poster says he tapped up Lineker live on tv when both were pundits for World Cup Final in 1986 and that left a sour taste for many Evertonians.

Given all that was going on today before kickoff I thought he get a very respectful and well deserved round of applause from all around the ground, including the Utd fans.

I'd honestly never heard of this before the guy posted it earlier. But to be fair, we won the league before the Lineker season, and we won it the year after. I was a kid at the time but as loads have said, for all his goals, the team changed to accomodate him and all in all we were a better team without him.

Didn't know about the woofters either.
