I love it me. I think songs are generally meant to wind up opposition aswell. The whoooooo annoys everyone. It’s great. That's so cringey, no idea what home fans think if they don't know the song!
As said before at Goodison I like SOTB as the pre match build up just before the teams come out but if it's a win (which is a rarity) I don't think there's anything better than belting out "IF YA KNOW YER HISTORY" as the away end filters out. Perfect way of saying Everton's place in the football pecking order.
I was saying it in jest but clearly the away fans like signing it at regular intervals so those at the top won't be ditching it anytime soon.
So was z-cars in the sense it was foisted on the club match day playlist itinerary.Difference for me is that Grand old team is a fan led song, fans adapted the words andit was brought through the pubs and terraces. The recorded version only came along decades later.
Spirit of the Blues is an official club song so for me it's more of a plastic song. You don't even have to go the match to know it.
Same applies to Here we go and Forever Everton. I do actually like Forever Everton as a recorded song, but it's not about that for me. The true Everton version of Forever Everton for me is the terrace version we fans adapted, "They've got the worst supporters of any football team etc". That is the version that should be sung. As that's the true Everton version.
I will notWoo! my arse.

You're spot on about the organic development of GOT though.
Songs like We are the Goodison Gang, We shall not Moved, Grand Old Team came from the fans either coming up with them or adopting them away from the club.
...much like the Premier and Champions Leagues then?Spirit of the Blues is a sanctioned piece of commercial tat that they've foisted on the fan base...
What I mean by this is that the communal singing is the key. Although most songs are terrible, a crowd backing the team is what creates the atmosphere. At least with Spirit of the blues they sound as if they are enjoying themselves. Most football songs are. Grand Old Team is abysmal as well.
We definitely care what the red side says though. And there always isn’t gonna be the a show as the blue boys often don’t turn up mate.“Here we go” is dated and embarrassing. Singing that in modern day reflects nothing no on what was sung many years ago for a successful side that won trophies.
