Even on the European council, where nations are represented directly by the elected government of each nation Germany has the same weighting of votes as the UK and France and Italy. We all get 29 each.

  • Spain, Poland: 27 votes each
  • Romania: 14 votes
  • Netherlands: 13 votes
  • Belgium, Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Portugal: 12 votes each
  • Austria, Bulgaria, Sweden: 10 votes each
  • Croatia, Denmark, Ireland, Lithuania, Slovakia, Finland: 7 votes each
  • Cyprus, Estonia, Latvia, Luxembourg, Slovenia: 4 votes each

Yes back to the commonwealth countries oh for Cheap New Zealand Lamb, and Cheap Austrialin butter, of cause I have the advantage of experiencing this as I rember the times before the EUor common market!
I notice Neil Kinnock has been dragged out to protect his massive EU pension!

If any country, it will be one of the ex communist, Christian nations. It will not be our nation. Our elite like mass immigration, cheap labour for them and they do not have to deal with the negatives. They can then also play divide and conquer strategies. It's like in America, does anyone actually believe that the Democrats want mass immigration out of the goodness of their hearts? No, they are simply importing Democrat voters.

I'd rather have I one vote the Uk!
Free trade all over the world without interference and cost joining the EU!
 
The Dutch govt have already ignored the referendum win for those that wanted no part of the deal with Ukraine.

I agree with those that have suggested this vote is a fait accompli.

The IN camp are bringing out Irish politicians left right and centre to try and make sure the 400k Irish residents who are eligible, vote the 'right' way.

Did make me chuckle the 'right on' woman who basically said because Labour (who she voted for) didn't win the election, she would rather be ruled over by unelected EU beaurocrats. Can't argue with logic like that.

But please explain how Germany could use trade sanctions against the UK within the EU. Stop us buying Audis, Mercs, and BMWs?

I think the question should be, why would they even want to stop selling us their car? We are a major market for German cars, indeed a major market for many good from all across the EU. It's the European Union itself that has threatened us with trade sanctions, not the manufacturers themselves.

I never mentioned sanctions and that was'nt my point anyway.
I used my point with regard to Turkey joining.
I think Germany will use it's influence (not sanctions) to make sure Turkey will join the EU soon enough.
It might not happen in my life time because I'm getting on now, but I fear for my children and grandchildren with us being in the EU, and Turkey isn't one of my main concerns either.

My concerns are in this order
Law, The EU should have no influence whatsover
Immigration, ditto
Also I believe we can hardly keep an eye on our own government, never mind the EU who are even more out of touch. I would like to be able to vote for our leaders, if they are good then vote them back in, if they are bad then vote them out, it seems we have no control on who runs the EU, in fact I couldn't even name them without Google, that's how out of touch they are.
