The EU deal

Sure. But how? Without sending immigrants back to the EU.

Not being obtuse, but they are here. Taking the jobs, in your words, ish. So how?

Yes they are here....in more than one vacancy in a lot of cases. Limit the amount of hours or the amount of jobs that immigrants are allowed to hold to the same level as what someone from the uk has to do to claim universal credit or other in work benefits i.e. 30hrs @ NMW for all blue collar vacancies.

Therefore, all these imported doctors and engineers etc wouldn't be affected, and there'd be more work for our own blue-collar workers.

Thank you. I would not disagree with a word of that.

So being in the EU stops us doing that?

Sorry, I am just trying to get a handle on this debate, from both sides. Just difficult cutting through the hyperbole, on all sides!

Yes mate, it does. Freedom of movement etc...

I guess it means it'd be harder for the likes of me to go abroad to do blue-collar work....Not that I'd be arsed whatsoever - if it meant there was that work here for me; and I wouldn't have to compete with everyone from the rest of the EU for it.

As long as you're alright.;)

If we were to vote to leave, I'm 100% convinced that the perception of the English throughout the rest of Europe will be one of general arrogance. It won't just be those going to Europe to work who'll find it harder.

I can see it stops us limiting EU migrants, but does it stop us having those same controls/limits for them? Hours worked etc for in work benefits and that.

All countries have different conditions for receipt of benefits AFAIK. Not aware of any conditionalities based on nationality. Some don't even have in-work benefits, I think. Might be wrong though.

If we were to vote out and impose what I suggested, then I'm sure the EU would have a reciprocal agreement/policy. And that's fair enough AFAIC.

What would happen to all the Brits living abroad if we leave?

Would there be a manned border between Northern Ireland and ROI?

I'm presuming we would have to draw up some kind of agreements with these countries for the status quo to continue?

See, I would rather stay in, and have your idea. Am staggered that everyone doesnt have to meet the same criteria for in work benefits anyrate. Thought they were.

Here. Free movement of labour I dont have a major issue with, but EU migrants being able to claim in work benefits "easier" than Brits, if that is the case, cant be right.

They don't claim benefits easier than british nationals mate. I haven't said that, if that's how it's come across....

But by those immigrants having multiple jobs that carry them over the threshold to claim in-work benefits, and british nationals (self-employed, p/t unemployed) struggling to find more hours or better paid work, they have a distinct advantage, and the nationals more obstacles to negotiate - especially when some agencies recruit exclusively from imported labour.
