Is it time for change?

  • I'm happy with the way thing are. Kenwright and the Board should stay.

  • Kenwright and the board need to go. We need change.

Sad thing is unless we are laden with debts beyond what we know, there isnt a better time to buy us, if we were for sale.

Now we have missed the oppertunity for investment because there is 6 teams in a better financial position and one better run by us all above us now.

So with neither investments or takeovers we are going to rot whilst the tv money widens the gap.

And here my friends is why Evertonians will never remove BK and Evertonians will continue to get what they deserve for many more years to come....

Nothing personal.
There have been no calls for, or rumours of cashed up takeovers for, what, at least a couple of years? We all know that Kenwright
doesn't have the funds to buy ECL football or trophies for Everton, and there have been no bids or offers.
In these circumstances there isn't a need to replace the current regime.
Is there anyone in a similar financial situation who is likely to do better? Well, is there?

What is this poll really asking? Kenwright to sell the club or for Kenwright and the board to step aside and allow others to come in and run the club on the current revenue?

I really hate the way with which you are either defined as pro or anti Kenwright. I think to a certain degree Kenwright has done a pretty good job. A club with limited resources has done rather well, is an established top 10 Premier league side and financially the club existence is not under threat.

Sure there will be many who say 'top 10 isn't good enough for Everton' and they'd be right to a certain degree, but Leeds United showed ambition above their finances and i'd rather stay a premier league side and win nothing than emulate anything remotely similar to what happened there. In fact i would take champions league qualification over an FA Cup or League cup success. I'm afraid football has moved on significantly and finance and revenue are now king, not trophies. Portsmouth and Wigan won a cup, how are they doing right now? Look at the current top 6 in the premier league - Chelsea owe RA £956 million in interest free loans to the sister company, Man City are funded by one mans pocket, Man Utd are a football club laden with debt (although they can pay the interest on those debts comfortably) and Arsenal are the best run club in the country who have the infrastructure to stay at the top and invest in the club in any market condition and Southampton who have had to sell off their best players and are owned by someone who may or may not want out.

There is a large part of me thats is very pleased Kenwright has not allowed this football club to be sold to some dodgy person who apparently has 'investment' and is being very careful. Maybe he has turned down someone fit and proper , but i'd prefer the sale of Everton football club was done as cautiously as possible. I think the only takeover of a premier league club i've witnessed recently that i was annoyed hadn't happened for Everton was Randy Lerner. Sure he wants out at Villa and it hasn't gone well for him there, but he's invested £300 million into the club and i feel that money at Everton would have been a better investment and we could be a genuine consistent champions league qualifier. I think he's a smart guy and wouldn't take unnecessary risks. I wouldn't want the type of takeover Man City and Chelsea have had because i think a football club that is purely at the mercy of one mans pockets and his loans should be outlawed from football and puts the very future existence of the club at risk if that person decided he wasn't interested anymore.

Has the board had significant failures, sure. Kings Dock is one that sticks in my throat and you could easily argue they have failed to grow the clubs revenue significantly and find investment for a new stadium (which might change soon).

It would seem that there are a lot of supporters out there who think if Kenwright sells or steps aside then everything in the garden is rosy and Everton climb the league and start winning things. I find this highly naive and to a degree delusional. I think there is a lot to be said for a club with limited resources like Everton being a consistent top 10 premier league side with very low financial risk. This is not fantasy football, this is business.

With this Sky money i expect to see some clubs commit financial suicide in order to chase 4th place or even premier league survival. Until a genuinely interesting potential owner comes along I would hope that Everton continue to be a club run within their means where emphasis is put on good coaching, youth development and smart transfer dealings. The one thing i think Everton absolutely need and the current board absolutely have to deliver is a new world class stadium that drives revenue which in turn could attract that new owner.

So in answer to the poll, my answer is both or none.

Is the Club in a better position than say 10 years ago? yup, I'd say it was
Could it be better? yup, can always better
Could it be better on the current investment/income levels? possibly but I wouldn't bet on it. There's clubs with much bigger incomes than our who are in terrible position.

Do I think someone else could do it better? yup, probably but it would take quite a reasonably sized injection of cash and I wouldn't want to see us ruined by opening up to any nutjob with a large wallet.

My only problem with the financial side is I don't think we are aggressive enough in sponsorship deals. I think we undervalue ourselves all the time. I could be that someone who has a good grasp of modern practise needs to come in and really have a go at it. I think we're sort of stuck in the 90's with the way we do things and the amounts we're asking for.

We had no chance once Kenwright convinced Earl/Green to shore up and sit on a significant amount of shares.

'Til death do us part.

Do you have any idea what Mansour is doing for Manchester (and I dont mean the football club) to say you wouldnt want him at this club is absolutely certifiably crazy, he is providing an infrastructure for not just the club but for the whole community to thrive!!

At the totally opposite end of the spectrum we have Everton to have to rely on the local community and council to even have a shot at getting a new stadium and even now it looks unlikely.

Southhampton have spent nearly every penny they recouped in the summer and to say they had to sell is completely wrong. The daughter has said she has no intention of leaving and confirmed that by reinvesting the transfer fees they received in the summer.

Has the Board had significant failures?

KD, FSF, NTL, DK, Chris Samuelson, The park end, 2 training grounds sold, a man who lived in a 1 bed flat above a shop getting past due diligence.

Id also question why in a year of record revenue that debt has increased.

Also you have your last paragraph totally the wrong way round, with the current sky money and the increased deal coming in a couple of years then clubs will need the champions league less and less to survive financially. The league provides much more money than the champions league now.

That tells you only one thing, and that is Kenwright is leading the supporters a merry dance since Christmas 1999 and we havent been for sale or rather nobody is stupid enough to pay Kenwright his over inflated view of the selling price.

Have no fear, after the season that we are having a well placed rumour of a sale or a uber grandiose new stadium drawing, with batman lights, will appear a week before the end of the ST buying season.

Been away and just saw this. Without knowing any of the figures you are relying on, I must say that its pretty naive to suggest that just because turnover is a record, debt can't increase. Record turnover would give many companies the confidence to increase debt. And I've been running my own businesses,of various sizes since 1973, with varying degrees of success.
