The Everton Board Thread 2014/15

Is it time for change?

  • I'm happy with the way thing are. Kenwright and the Board should stay.

  • Kenwright and the board need to go. We need change.

Yeah but did any of us expect it to be spent anyway?
I didn't, I must admit. Quite a few on here were always confident though.

Even with the McCarthy to United rumour resurfacing, I'm not too worried about anyone leaving to pay for Lukaku. I do, however, think @Moomin could be right about fees and wages inflating in the near future, putting Everton in a tough spot again.

I was using a classic line from a Prince song, not talking about how jarg we were in 1999.

I know but the point still stands.

We're a hairs breath away from being a top team and actually winning stuff, nows the time to push the envelope a bit further if we have any ambition of getting back to the very top. If in a few years it hasn't come off I'd understand why we were having to sell some players to pay back debt, I wouldn't be happy about it mind, but in the meantime as long as we don't do anything stupid like Leeds or Portsmouth I think a bit of an educated gamble is worth it.

Who knows what will happen in the mean time we may even catch the eye of an investor or two while we're doing so well.

Can you name 3 clubs like this in the league?

Those which dont rely on player sales or tv money? Because I cant.
All of the other top 7 clubs and a handful of clubs beneath us have better revenue streams and don't rely on player sales as much as we do.

We have the lowest spend out of the premier league and a large amount of the championship over the last 20 years

The feel good factor didn't last long then.

I reckon the feel good factors here to stay, good signings by Martinez this summer, and good coaching/motivation running the playing staff.

Financially though, we've spent the TV money....wisely. That's something all clubs have the opportunity to do, subject to a decent manager, but a number of clubs have commercial income that allows them to spend a lot more.

We had a superb opportunity this summer to reach out into the US. Tim Howard, the marketing of Everton as the alternative to Arab/Russian money, the working mans club.

Loads of US guys on here confirmed the american sports fan would lap it up; oldest ground/tradition/skint/underdog. They love it.

We even had a sort of film/documentary sort of lined up. Pretty sure we made suggestions to the Club as well.

Would have cost zippo, but could have been ace.

But the WC is old news now.

Hey ho.

No disrespect, but an amateur documentary isn't necessarily going to be the best way you might see of promoting your 'brand'.

In addition, turning any US interest into tangible income, is no easy feat.

We could surely use a good 30 for 30 from Roger Bennett (no amateur, he). He'd give his Evertonian eye teeth for the go ahead to tell our story, and has said so. Evertonian GFOPs (you know who you are) need to keep up the pressure. It's something us Yanks could do.

Thats the bloke. Some lad on here emailed him or FB'd him about it.

Nice mellow post Mr Elephant. The fact is that ever since the first payment was made from one club to another, all those years ago, buying and selling players has been an intregal part of the business of football. The goal is always to make the sales and purchases beneficial to the club, either on the pitch or on the balance sheet. Ronaldo £80+ million, Bale similar, Suarez £75million, many more bits of 'business' that presumably pleased both buyer and seller, for different reasons. When and why you sell players is just as important as when and why you buy them. So far this has been a well orchestrated window for Everton, but its the next season and the next balance sheet that will show whether it was a progressive window. I've a feeling it will be.

The yanks and asians dont care about marketing etc. They just want to say they support a top side.

Need to get champions league consistently and then go on these tours.
Frankly this is untrue and a little offensive. The Yanks and asians are not a monolith, but rather they are individual people with their own motivations for support. Plenty of them would support Everton given a little push.

Historically they've supported successful teams because those were the only teams on tv in those area. That obstacle is now cleared.

Can you imagine how fffing mellow I'm going to be when we finally get a board that can run the club finances properly ???

Incidentally, latest on Dixie The Peoples Legend: Bill Kenwright has revived this project and is now Executive Producer( that is, he's INVESTED in the project, or found the money). Its been in development since 2013, but it looks as if there could now be some movement on the project. Thats a start.

Poppycock.

The premier league has been on TV in many Asian countries for over a decade.

Have you ever been to Asia? I find it comical that such a comment would offend you when most football fans out here freely admit they are glory supporters (except the RS fake fans). Thats such an obtuse comment it really is quite funny really. If you actively researched supporters clubs in the region I highly doubt staging a game would even cover the costs -- look at Thailand with chang how much is thst generating? If there was interest then another sponsor would see the value and pay FAR more for sponsorship.

Even a simple youth setup like milan and barca have done out here -- there is NO market for it.

I have first hand knowledge of the above.

As for the US, I'd guess you're American and so clearly biased whereas I hold a neutral and informed viewpoint.

You need something to market and thats clearly not going to be the situation without champions league.

EDIT -- your second paragraph is simply a LIE. Historically, what in the 1950s ?!

Madness.

Did you see the letter of complaint about fat head in your bible The Stage this week?

I wish I could afford Bill Kenwrights morals and aspirations for the industry. I know, if he unblocked the rights to one of the hundreds of works he continously blocks but are never performed perhaps someone else could tour a show. I’d promise to stay away from London and not talk about it at all. Thanks. So much p.s I promise to do a spread sheet and everything

Looks like he's upsetting his fellow luvvies.

To add to this, in Tokyo, Singapore, Vietnam, Philippines, indonesia, malaysia etc the clubs such as Man Utd, Arsenal, Liverpool are all shown in bars.

Its a night out for groups of people who are all friends to go and watch a game on a big tv down the bar.

How many people can be heard during everton games making a sound or wearing a shirt or doing anything whatsoever -- ZERO unless theyre from the UK.

There are very few fans of the club in asia. That is a fact and one which will not change without on the pitch success.
