Interesting times, if they have agreed and signed Heads of Terms then they are well on the way to a deal being done. All the key terms would have already been agreed and basically unless there are some skeletons or prohibitive covenants that no one has been made a way of then I think there is every chance that it will go through. Even with the relevant mortgages and other loans I don't think that the transaction will be particularly complicated. They will review the existing contracts with Chang, Umbro, Kitbag and others. not that I would expect there to be anything to challenging in them. There are no joint ventures or other third party agreements. Expect this to be done quite quickly.

Getting new owners is a bit like getting a new manager - nobody knows in advance how it will turn out.

However, what we can say for sure is that the current board are in the last financial saloon and its members are ageing. The new Sky money will be squandered on new loans at eye-watering interest rates and we will continue the current death spiral. We cannot go on forever like this.

We just need to hope that new owners will sort out a stadium and put the club on a decent commercial track ie a FORWARD plan. If so, it WILL make them money.

For those panicking about the possible new owners shady past, its worth bearing in mind that NO rich businessmen have a squeaky-clean past!

Cross your fingers, blues...

so it's a gamble and we don't want a Lerner type so we ?

What we need is the opposite, just clear plans for new stadium etc, and money just committed into the club, for on and off the pitch. any new potential owner can do what they like to make themselves and the club money, that's the business side that we lack now. But we need just clear investments for the team to say to martinez (or whoever is our manager) right, here is x amount of money guaranteed, more if you are more succesful. Build the squad. If manager is succesful they have more to spend, they aren't succesful then at least there is some sort of plan in place, transfers go back into the team etc, all within a sensible business model that is meant to run over a period of time.

So from reading about them both, they are clearly v shrewd business folks. Moores started Peregrine Systems, then BMC Software (I worked there for 6yrs), he finally got his wish and also purchased Remedy (Service Desk software).
Between him and Noelle, they run JMI - a vc company specialising in software company investments.
10yrs ago Moores net worth was $730m, although it is understood to have grown since then.
The fact they bought the Padres a new stadium and also sold them suggests they maybe looking at putting us in a better position with a view to selling us on again at a profit to themselves.

I'm a little freaked out as I was originally employed by Remedy, then moved over to BMC as part of the acquisition.

I have nothing but love for BMC as I met my wife there and had 6 fantastic years working there. BMC themselves were previously a publicly traded company that took themselves back to a privately held company, with annual revenues of $1.5b.

There's clearly money with these guys, I guess the 'concern' is that they're looking st this as a short term opp to turn us around and then sell for plenty more than they bought us for.

Yeah but even if true, they couldn't sell us for more if they didn't move the club forward (i.e. improved cash flow, CL football, increased branding worldwide). So if we got all those things, and then they sold on for a profit...that's bad how??

But that is the point mate, his baseball team didnt see the money on the field. They were better run yes, but it wasn't for the teams benefit, it was for him. the only time they saw the benefit was when he first took over.

So yeah, i'm not saying this will happen to us, but its a possibility based on his track record. By all means if we benefited from it then its win win for both, if we did move up to rival the top 4 of the league then its a success, and the fella can run a business behind the scenes, but so can ashley, and you see first hand what that can do.

They won 4 division titles under his leadership, including playing in a world series. And they got a new ballpark which is incredible.

I'm not going to get into the financial stuff, because that's out of my league. But if you're looking at the success of the Padres to judge the potential of these buyers, remember that baseball in the U.S. is massively different than Premier League football. It's not uncommon for baseball teams to go from worst to first in their division in one year, and vice versa. There are very few teams that are consistently playoff contenders every year.

The Padres also play in the same division as the Dodgers, who spend crazy money every year. Just recently it was announced that this past season the Dodgers had a record payroll of $297.6 million, which far exceeds the $189 million threshold. Because teams pay on the amount they are over the tax threshold, they had to pay a luxury tax of $43.6 million. The Dodgers won their division this past season.

I'm not defending the management or ownership of the Padres. My point is that Major League Baseball is a totally different animal than the Premier League, so keep that in mind when looking at the success of the Padres when trying to judge how successful the owners might be in England.

Nothing wrong with what happened at Villa mate.

O'Neill gambled and it didnt pay off so they had to do a lot of cost cutting as a result, like Lambert signing players from crewe rather than decent teams.

they only went tits up because Learner wants to cash up and go home so to speak but the initial gamble financially (poor foresight by Randy to be fair) didn't pay off for him. If Villa made the champions league then i'm sure financially they would have been stable. And considering O'Neil had them 4th and the team suddenly stopped getting results for 2 months, hardly the owners fault!
If you asked the question on a Villa forum I can just imagine the response.I've a feeling the next few moths will be scarier than crosses into the box for us.

I think should this happen this will be a short term takeover similiar to how I see FSG at Liverpool. They will sort the stadium out and look to sell to make a profit. I think within 10 years both us and the Kopites would be moved onto new hands which in our case you would hope would be a sugar daddy ala shinawatra selling up to Sheikh Mansour.
What makes you think that? Moores held onto the Padres for 17 years, and only sold then because of his divorce. I don't see anything in his history to indicate he looks to flip assets for short term profits.
