Sorry to labour this mate, but here precisely is the point. You nor I nor 99% of the posters on here have any clue what the real financial position is, what cash is committed now, what will be available in the future, how much of what we spend now is a gamble (committing money we don't definitively know will appear). You have no right to call them 'phantom' transfer fees unless you really are on the inside at the table with Elstone, Moyes and Kenwright. And I'll assume you're not.

You can speculate that they are spending money they don't have, and that's your right. I wouldn't agree with you personally, and if someone proved it then of course we'd all see, but we're never likely to get that public disclosure. I simply don't think the banks, who now surely must have such a hold on what we can spend, would allow them to play fast and loose with money they don't have, given the amount they're already owed.

Banks may take a view on known future cashflows (eg Sky / TV money that is committed) and lend against it - that's what they do (take risks, and get paid for it). Sure, the banks will protect themselves first (ie. take a senior charge over future receivables), but even so it's a long stretch to believe they'd allow the club to endanger itself financially while they're funding.

Unless there's ANOTHER source of cash in play.....

Its a forum to discuss things. We can either not bother and take things as they are, or pull up concerns.

Anything that happens on and off the field can be put in the "no one knows", category.

I feel there's more at play as we've not even bagged a loan. We've also gone from sell to buy to 12mill bids in 12 months.

It's my belief that the money for the fer bid came from someone associated with the club either in the form of a bridging (for want of a better word) loan or something more formalised. It's also my belief that we were able to structure the deal as a payment plan because of his injury hence why our attempts to change the terms irritated them . They'd given us an inch & we wanted a mile.

I just don't buy all this fake bid stuff , I do think moyes often has the final say although I can say there not always the case. Moyes agreed to sign a player on loan a couple of years ago and the agents worked hard reducing the wage contribution and the loan fee. The agents wanted a fairly substantial facilitation fee (still significantly less than it was before their negotiations started) and moyes signed off on it but kenwright pulled it . This isn't about the rights or stings of that deal just to say moyes doesn't have absolute control .

Was his name a colour by any chance ala Yakubu a few years back.?

*just joking *

Theres got to be some buisness in summer or the board will face a backlash from the fans . Just prey to god that our injury spells are over and we can kick on

there is never a proper backlash, do you not remember when there were a few people protesting and everyone on internet forums was raging a season or so ago...

kenwrights picture gets shown on big screen and the stadium all clap and applaud him.

Internet forums are not a good place to judge the general fans perspective on things.

Bye bye Moyes......wow, muscle shown by the world's greatest ever Evertonian!

Kenwright is a complete joke and as long as he is at the helm our transfer dealings will always be completely amateurish.

Which players agent was it who called them complete amateurs a few years ago? can't recall now.

Thanks for putting that up on the board sheeds.

I,m done with the leeches in the front office, not arsed anymore about the debate. They,ve got to go, simple as for me.

Hope we win the cup and the players let Moyes up the stairs to hold it up.

I don't think the chairman , CEO & manager are considered amongst the 'best ' to deal with across the board to be honest .

We could've done the same years ago though. Why now? The new TV money can't be that amazing we can pull 12mill out of our arse

Last season we couldn't get a few mill together without selling.

It can & it is.

The new TV deal will mean that we will recieve circa an additional £25M per annum for the next 3 years.

...and it'll mean, presumably, that the terms demanded by our targets (no laughing at the back) in the next few windows will be more costly to get hold of in terms of sorting out wages.

It could very well be false economy trying to save a few quid in this transfer window.

I don't think for one minute the intention was to 'save a few quid' this window.

There'll no doubt be some inflation in prices due to the fresh bounty at clubs disposal come the summer, I hope there's common sense applied around wages, but I'm not going to count on it.

Football is a false economy and it'll implode soon, normal clubs won't be able to sustain the financial implications levied on them by these money grabbing footballers soon.

If Sky prices rise dramatically and people cancel their subscription then the next deal on the table will be considerably less and clubs will have a massive black whole to fill. Clubs need to be careful about how they go about this situation with the next lot of TV money;I can accept transfer fees rising, thats part of the game, but giving people silly money is not i.e. Samba and his £100k a week

Which means nothing as all that will happen is wages will rise and there will be no extra funds to buy players as salaries will swallow up the money in next to no time.

The wage bill won't increase by £25M, by itself overnight, it'll be up to the club to ensure that it's kept in check.

So in the summer window there'll be plenty of funds available.

It cant be controlled by just one club. It requires unity across the PL....which, on this issue, will be like trying to plait sawdust. They're already in disagreement on how a system of pegging wages as a proportion of income should work.

IMO, it's pie-in-the-sky to think it'll be overcome. That extra £25M will be devoured by players and agents, sure as eggs are eggs.

Thanks Sheeds. This is exactly the kind of insight most of us don't have and (fortunately) one or two do, and when you finally see it you can then make a proper judgement about what goes on. I had suspected we messed the deal up by going back on or renegotiating and agreement with Twente. This just about confirms it. The useless tits....
