I'd go with option 3) loves the perks and status that come with the position and cant bare to lose them.

Very obviously there have been people that told us all how it is and were shunted sideways after those at the club moved to stifle protest as there gravy train could have been derailed.

The only way something will be done is if people start voting with their feat. If season ticket renewals go down the board will have to take notice.
