The Everton Board Thread

He doesn't have information not available to the masses, he thinks cause he works in law he's some king of genius. He just spouts rubbish so confidently it almost sounds like he's in the know, when challenged for proof he spouts silly sentences like wait and see.

What ever the size of the fund (rumoured to be 100 million) does not stop them from using leveraged debt to buy the club.

Supposedly like Bill Kenwright done years ago..

He comes out with some odd stuff, says one thing then the next day the total opposite. I agree I'm not really sure what his angle is at times.

This is what I find very odd as well, he says that it will happen very soon and then replies saying it will happen by the end of next month, since the season will be over then it makes more sense for any announcement to happen then or at least by the 1st of June when all the dust has settled on this current season.

I can't help thinking about two or three extreme examples of the influence of the board, and how it doesn't match with what our board does

1) Forest Green Rovers - I know they're relegated , but that vision of eco-friendly development is clear, and they seem to have fun, and create a positive energy with it. It's a good example of a clear vision from board to players and fans, though of course on a small scale.

2) Chelsea now - the transfer policy not working out directly because of the owner, and no manager is l likely to fix it - they had this idea that 'life cycles' of 2-3 years of a team and manager's vision gets you a trophy or two every 2-3 years. That idea is unravelling because the vision is very scattered and not clear.

3) Wrexham - the influence of the owners seems to be in the PR, sponsorships, the 'fun' and the 'vibe' around the club. They're enjoying the ride.

Brighton seem to have a really good idea of how to manage a big player turnover, but to employ coaches with the same vision they are looking for. Despite Wolves being slightly inconsistent, they are following a plan too, and for clubs like this, establishing themselves as PL clubs is a big big step forward. On the other hand, clubs like Burnley under Kompany, Man U with Ten Hag and Arsenal with Arteta show that the board + manager impact can spell very quick success. For us, I would have been happy enough if Koeman, Martinez, Silva didn't really work out, but we were trying to build something. but the massive variety of transfers and coaches show that we just did not have a strategy.
There's a few things there. Firstly it's quite easy to have fun and enjoy the ride when things are going well. Both Forest Green and Wrexham have very much been having good times recently so positive energy is pretty easy to come by (although not all old school Wrexham fans have been happy with the current situation). The same thing applies to Arsenal, Burnley and United really. None of them have actually had success yet, it's easy to say oh look at them flying but none of them have actually achieved anything of note at the moment. You could easily have said the same about us at the end of Koeman's first season, or at the end of Silva's, or when we were second at Christmas under Ancelotti.

It would be easy to sell Everton as a heritage brand, focusing on our history and accepting that we're not a big player anymore but drawing on the past to highlight our standing in the game. People don't want us to do that though, because it would mean 'giving up'. That's exactly why Moshiri gave his famous 'short window/don't want to be a museum' speech and we all lapped it up. If we had a fanbase that accepted being in the Premier League as as good as it gets then we could be all happy clappy and enjoying the ride and all that, but we don't. Same thing applies with someone coming in with a model that involves flipping players. That's fine for as long as we're improving, but if we do that and get to a point where we hit the buffers and just become a glorified feeder club then people won't be happy.

Chairman Bill and Chairman Daniel are making more puppets than Gerry Anderson ever did

Some agency has made a fortune with that PR advice.

Reminds me of;

He knows the square root of naff all.

It was comical watching people believe every word he wrote last week.

I get the impression he gets informed on certain things but it’s used more as PR/narrative setting than full on reporting. I could be wrong of course.
