The Everton Board Thread

It was a wise man who once said "they've fooled you into thinking finishing 6th is good. It isnt"

We're one of the biggest clubs in England and we've been absolutely hollowed out. It's for our own good that we're not allowed to spend any money. we'd only hose it at some more dross. Think back to 2017 when The manager, the chairman, the DoF and the owner couldn't decide which number 10 they wanted so they all picked one.

It was Neville Southall who said that wasn’t it?

But its never good enough is it? We were finishing top 7 regularly under Moyes for years yet still marched and protested at the board because we rightfully wanted more than just "6th".

So say we do improve and finish 10th 3 years on the spin - does that equal good times or do fans start getting agitated and wanting europe / top 7? Then what happens when we get 7th and europa league/ conference? We want CL and so on and at that point we hit the glass ceiling, we slide down the table and the cycle of angst starts all over as we start to go "backwards".

This is my point - the system itself is broken you're looking at the current position of the club and rightfully want more but when we get more its still not enough for a club our size, our history, our prestige and expectation - but the system in place will always prevent us from having the means to push for the ultimate prize, the "good times" to quote Kenwrong.
The protest against the board was because they had bought the club and hadn’t put a penny while the debt grew and having to sell our best players just to appease the banks , nothing to do with wanting to go from 7th to 6th

Hes an absentee owner because he's tax exile. He's resident in Monaco and if he spends more than 90 days a year in the UK he'll have to pay tax.
I don't mean that he is an absentee owner because he doesn't come to the games, although it would be nice if he could be arsed to pop over every now and then - we know he spends a significant amount of time in London so the fact he couldn't be bothered coming to a single game last season when the team where playing behind closed doors for a significant period of time before that doesn't look good on him at all.

The only time this bloke shows the slightest interest in Everton is when our forms gets so bad and he can't possibly stand aside anymore and he takes a manager out.

We are so far removed from the days of heavy investment now, we are now in our second summer in a row of complete transfer austerity. Whilst fans will blame FFP for that (which is his fault) I am still convinced Moshiri has pulled the plug to cut his losses.

In terms of "relative success" outside of trophies we've probably been the most successful club outside the scab 6 in the PL era when you take into account 5th-7th place finishes (majority under Wee Davey).

Yet is that competing? Is it success? Kenwright seemed to think it is yet we all laughed at his "good times" quote.

Thats the crux of the issue for me - we as a fanbase do not know what success is anymore and the main reason why it is unachievable.

Since FFP was fully implemented 2011 only 2 clubs outside the scab 6 have won a trophy (Leicester/Wigan) so 2x teams on average in 11 years and since then we've had the 5 sub rule and VAR implemented which also favours the big clubs which likely means that 11 year average will only increase further.

Assuming many of the lids on here are 40-50 age range, what hopes have they got seeing Everton even lift a Carabao Cup on their remaining time on earth never mind a League Title.

Thats why everyone should be angry - our rights as football fans to see fair sporting integrity and a proper competition has been pulled from underneath us in order to satisfy the glory hunting fans of the already established sides.

Even if Thelwell gets recruitment bob on it just means we have a few seasons like we had under Davey it doesn't equate to what LFC, CFC or MCFC are currently enjoying and it never will do.
Again you’re blaming outside forces instead of questioning why, in the Prem Era, we’ve made just 4 FA Cup semi finals, 2 of which resulted in making the final and 2 League Cup semi finals and only came away with one trophy

Leicester have won 2 out of the 3 domestic trophies in the last 6 years without having the massive spending sprees others have, it can be done

It can - but its near impossible and becoming more and more difficult as the big clubs threaten to leave for the super league so the authorities appease them further and further.

Leicester won the title when City, Chelsea, Utd, RS and Arsenal were all in transition with their main rival a Spurs side famed for bottling big occasions.

Wigan got to a cup final and only had to beat Everton in the quarters, Millwall in the semi's and a Man City side in the final who's team had downed tools on Mancini who had fallen out with the squad and was on the verge of the sack.

Both clubs had huge slices of good fortune so whilst it is "possible" so is winning the euro millions but you dont quit your job on the basis of "I could win it as someone from the North West once won it".

Very tone deaf considering we seem on the verge of spending dough on Cornet + Gibbs-White - why cant they wait and see Thelwell's plans this summer window before stamping their feet ?

This group may have been onto a winner chasing Kenwright but soon as they turned their attention on Moshers they'll have lost a good bulk of support mine included.

No one out there interested in buying us but a very dodgy skint group of Yanks but still Moshiri oot NOW !
But Moshiri has come out and said we aren't for sale and never have been. Wonder who's telling porkies?

Very much inclined to agree with this. After wazzing £500m up the wall to go backwards, perhaps the whole FFP thing is a very convinient scenario for Moshiri so he can say "I'd spend if I could" whilst knowing full well he's going minimum spend only until BMD.

After all, if you've seen half a billion quid of your money wasted, would you want to throw another 200-500m at it whilst also having to fund a stadium, all with your No1 money man no longer being part of the picture?! I'm not so sure.

From a board that once said lied live on the telly that goodison was about to lose its safety certificate I wouldn’t put anything past them

It was probably lost down the back of a chair. With the Arteta money. (either than sitting in some 1980s filing cabnet in the storage room, with a list of phone numbers of investors we've been chasing since the 2000s).
